I'm insured with Mercedes Insurance, and we are about to goto France for two weeks. I've been told by Mercedes Insurance that I don't need to get a green card anymore, and that I'm automatically covered.

Whilst this pleases me, I'm skeptical. Can someone confirm that you no longer need a green card to travel abroad ?

On another note, I asked them to change the details relating to my insurance policy and where we stored the vehicle. They stated that it would cost another £100 to change the location details, on the basis that it was a dodgy postcode. I sited the fact it would be stored in a concrete hardened building, with solid steel doors, 24 CCTV, Guard Dogs and all sorts. 'Still £100' sir. May as well park the car in front of a bus. They have no common sense.

Any help on the insurance appreciated.

Thanks.

You do not need a green card for France or many other EU countries for that matter.

Hmm. I am insured with Directline and they still issue the green cards. I have required and received one each time on my last few trips to France.

Green cards can be issued if you desire, but your normal certificate is your replacement for carrying the green card, which i keep on me with my passport, driving licence, and log book.

Without a green card are you covered comprensive ?. I was led to belive when you travel abroad cover is limited to TPFT or even just Road traffic act.I might be wrong thow.

Basic cover is provided unless you have paid an additional premium, as far as I know.

Green card is now only a translation of your policy. Mercedes will issue one if pressed. Legally you are covered as at home.

Thanks.
