This year I'd like to do a European road trip, there are a few company's online that offer tours and organised road trips visiting various attractions, race tracks and great driving roads.

Is anyone else on here thinking of doing a road trip this year?

Something like this...

Unfortunately I can not make this date but I'd like to do a similar route.

If there are a few people who fancy it we could organise our own trip.

I would be but £1000 is heavy. My last trip cost £350!

Where did you visit?

Yes I think organising one independently would be a lot cheaper.

Not quite sure your £350 trip is a like for like from OPs post surely, if it is, good for you.
Return travel, and 8 nights B&B for just over £1K, all pre organised, by others that's great value.

But I suppose you get what you pay for, hopefully.

To be fair the eurotunnel was on the cheap. Hotels we just stopped along the way. Most of that £1000 is organiser profit I think. My mate organised it with no profit. We knew roughly where we would be.

I think the biggest cost is fuel, eating out and drinking and of course speeding tickets. Switzerland a speeding ticket runs into a few grand as it's linked to income.

One of our forum group on our French trip, last October, lived in Switzerland and travelled over to meet us, so we had the low down on the rules and penalties of unlawful motoring over there, but we stayed in France, going on to hiring a race track just to ourselves down in Bordeaux, plus an exclusive to us karting day there after, fantastic trip, great company, hotel and food, however, if you were counting the cost, it would not be a trip for some. We got what we paid for, far exceeding OPs cost mentioned, and all enjoyed it, even the additional 500 plus euro fuel bill most of us incurred.
The same group are currently discussing another trip, which I hope comes off.

I hope OP goes out and enjoys his time out there, looks a great trip, and such great value.:thumb:

Without doubt it's a cracking idea and the trips are great.

The real costs are when your there. I mean your probably going to do 10 tanks of fuel at least that's £600. Food and drink is same again. Then you have attractions.

It's a good £2k job with EVERYTHING but well spent!

£1039 each for 8 nights seems reasonable to me assuming that the hotels are fair.

We're doing a similar trip but in the reverse direction this year: Reims, Monte Carlo, Riva Del Garda, Venice, Riva Del Garda, Stuttgart (Affaltarbach). We'll probably head down to Modena from Garda at some point.

You mean you don't stay in formule 1 :D

I am not able to make this trip due to work but I'd like to do a Euro trip this year?

Are there any group trips this year that are planned? The hardest part is finding like minded petrol heads to go with, I have 1 maybe 2 friends who are up for it (Cayman S & E90 M3)

Can do it unescorted for £749pp

I try to do a couple of trips a year. I will be at the Nurburgring Easter weekend and then, in September, I will be travelling to the South of France ( St Maxime ), then through Italy to Austria, staying in Rauris. I will then be making my way back via the museum in Stuttgart and another quick visit to the Adenau, Trier area.

Having personally organised many European road trips over the years (both bike and car) on a non-profit basis for a club and also for friends, I would suggest that there isn't a great deal of profit in the tours that the OP linked to.

While its true that if you're minded to you can just pitch up somewhere with a few mates and find a cheap hotel "on spec" that really isn't viable on an organised tour where people need planned routes and a guaranteed bed for the night. Add in that lots of people want secure parking (preferably a garage), a nice location (edge of town industrial estates don't cut it :D ) and rooms a few notches up from a basic Formula 1, and the price rises pretty quickly.

Just one other point to factor in. Switzerland isn't the only place where motoring naughtiness can cost you dearly; France and Spain will willingly relieve you of large sums of money and perhaps more if you're caught so don't approach a European road trip as though the local rules don't apply to visitors.

If you've not done it before, or just don't have the time to research locations and routes then organised tours can be a great way to go. If you have more time and/or experience then you can save a few bob by organising it yourself, but perhaps not as much as you might imagine. Whichever way, touring on the continent can be great fun.

Any planned this year? I really want to do one but have no experience, I've driven abroad in Hire cars but never in my own. I'd love to do the trip I posed but will be away with work during them dates :(

The same website lists many tours, although this one caught my eye:

European Driving Tours - September 2017 - Italian Lakes & Mountains

Unless you really want the camaraderie of being part of a group, then going it alone is not difficult, especially if you plan your route and book your accommodation I advance. There's plenty of information about popular and dramatic roads for driving thrill, so pick a few, work out an itinary, and in between let the satnav deal with the more mundane aspects of navigation.

Just booked onto this, should be fun and a decent route to! We will have a slow drive back to the UK also visiting some more city's.

I'd certainly be interested in a trip and done a few in the past to the Alps, down to Monaco, etc. However this year my old 55 is getting the bodywork sorted plus I've got a house extension to pay for. Will be looking at another European trip next year though.

That Pure Rally trip seems v cheap compared to others so I did a quick Google. You might want to have a read of the below link.
