2 new tyres urgently required for my 300TD .. MOT coming up.
I checked out about a dozen or so tyre companies up here in the Midlands before coming across the following.
www.event-tyres.co.uk
I could not believe their prices which also included fitting at home (time to suit me) new valves, wheels balanced and credit card facility.
Their Mercedes van arrived about a couple of hours ago. A very experienced
nice guy called Justin had the job done in well under half an hour.
Have a look at their prices . I got 4 pages of tyres against 215.55.16 size
some of the makes I had never heard of . I chose Michelin Pilot Primacy to marry up with the other 2 tyres.
In passing Justin told me they deal with several MB dealerships in the London area who no doubt pass on massive price increases to us..
I don't know about you guys but I am convinced and I will never go anywhere else for tyres.

I've thought about this type of service in the past, but have been worried about balancing? Am I being overly cautious??

Hi Ian
No problem with wheel balancing with Event Mobile Tyres.
Both mine balance perectly .
The carry a wheel balancing machine on their vans almost the same as the machines used in the tyre depots. What do you think of their prices?
I could not beat them.

The prices look good to me, £170 each for 235/35/18 and £169 each for 245/30/18 Pirelli P-Zeros fitted. Ouch, 18's are expensive :)

oops checked the wrong sizes, mine should be:

225/40/18 £130
255/35/18 £164

Prices for Pirelli P-Zero's as I currently have, Dunlop & Goodyear were quite a bit cheaper...

Will definitely try them when I shop around for any tyres in future.

Whatcha chaps,

Read this post with interest

They do not cover my area, however try the following;

www.blackcircles.com

I have nothing to do with them, but their service is countrywide and beats the spots off any prices I could get anywhere

Cheers

Hi Mercman
Thanks for thread re Tyres.
On the E series I have ,(tyresize) 215 55 16W I paid the fitter £127.49 each whichinclude everything , even taking the old tyresaway. This compares with £144.62 from Black Circle.... What I did not know however is that Event from their depots in Manchester and Henley do not cover the entire country. Incidently these were Michelin Pilot Primacy speed rating W.... All good stuff, keep it in the data base.

Just had a pair of tyres fitted by EVENT TYRES .Super prices and Service

i'v just replaced all four tyres on my s class. hunted round for best prices, but local garage around the corner came up trumps. continentals at £78+vat each fitted and balanced (brand new and not remoulds). they had other makes at similar prices but i like the continentals for wear and noise.

Not so good service actually

Well, I've had no response to my letter of complaint to Event Tyres, so I'm just going to post it here and let it speak for itself.

I am writing to express my concern at the service I have received from
your company recently. The work was carried out at my home,
[ADDRESS REMOVED], on the 17th of June 2005, by (from reading
the invoice) Guy Shankland. The order was to fit two new Dunlop
215/55/R16 tyres to my Mercedes E320cdi Elegance wheels.

Let me start by saying that Guy was extremely polite, helpful and
competent. I was extremely pleased with his manner and the
professional outlook. He explained what he was doing as he went
along, and obviously knew his job.

However, after the wheels were put on, I experienced some fairly
severe "shuddering" when driving. I haven't been driving much over
the last couple of weeks (I've been working in Newcastle), but I
recently became extremely concerned when driving at higher speeds,
when the shuddering became more obvious. Around the speed limit on a
motorway it felt simply dangerous. I took the car to a local wheel
specialist to diagnose what was wrong, not thinking for a second that
the problem was to do with the new tyres. How could I be having a
problem, they are brand new good quality tyres! However, the verdict
was that the wheels were quite simply badly balanced. The left front
wheel was out by 10 on the right hand side, and the drivers' side
front wheel was out by 10 on the left and 40 on the right - there was
actually only one weight on the wheel, deep on the inside rim! Now
that the balancing has been corrected, the shuddering has vanished.

I have just been looking at my invoice, to work out how much money I
have had to spend in total to get a satisfactory set of wheels after
paying for re-balancing. To compound the issue, I notice that you
have charged me for "Environmental Tyre Disposal". However, I
specifically asked your fitter to leave the tyres behind; he most
certainly did not dispose of them! How you can charge for a service
you did not perform is beyond me; I realise that the sum is small, but
that does not justify it.

I do not know if your fitter, despite his professional appearance and
behaviour, was simply having a bad day, or if the machines used to
balance the wheels were "off" somehow, but I have ended up with a
service which is almost as bad as my local quick-fit, and I am not
happy about it. I do not plan on using your services again, and I
will not be recommending you to my friends.

Simon if you are going to write a letter of complaint you should always put a sentence in there explaining what you want in compensation, otherwise it's fairly pointless.

I would have asked for a partial refund, no matter how petty it may seem.

I have to say that in this area I find black circles to be way out on price. Local fitters beat them.

However, the best service and price/availability I've found for miles and miles around is http://www.micheldever.co.uk/

They wholesale for many other tyre outlets and always have stock of even the most obscure tyres. Turn up, queue (if there is one), fit, pay, drive off. Cheap as chips too.

also you should never tell them you won't be using them again.

Your letter of complaint was justified but it presented the company with a "closed case". You weren't happy, you wouldn't use them again, you wouldn't recommend them.

I'm not surprised they didn't reply becasue you didn't ask them to. Writing complaint letters is an art :)

Still, thanks for telling us about the problems, it's nice to hear both sides

I agree with Andy here.

Instead of saying 'I wont be...'. I would have said 'I would be pleased to hear your comments as to why I should ....in the future....'. Preceeded by 'This unfortunate experience has cost me not only financially but emotionally as well. I was particularly concerned for the safety of my family as we travelled in a vehicle which I felt may have been unsafe'

Unfortunately you have closed the door. Still, maybe thats what you wanted in which case I'll shut up!

At the very least you have alerted us all to not using those people!

Yes sorry, wow my post looked negative, thank you for letting us know! :)

Heh, I'm just no good at writing complaint letters! To be honest, I'd already *got* the problem resolved, just wanted to let them know what had happened. I wasn't expecting them to refund some money or anything - it would have been a nice gesture but in this commercial world it doesn't happen often. I was at least expecting an acknowledgement or reply of some sort. Oh well.
