Excessive front tyre wear on the outer shoulders

Almost certainly toe, make sure they use a spreader bar exactly as described by MB for your chassis. It is the only way in about 20 alignments I have ever got the tyres to wear without sawtooth shoulder wear......

Update

Car on platform with Hunter alignment gear at STS Tyre Pros

Rear camber not adjustable

2013 alignment results

2014 alignment results

The car drives ok, a very slight bias to the left on crowned A roads, fine on totally flat surfaces. I'll keep an eye on how my wife parks and exit parking spaces, she doesn't seem to be turning the wheel to full lock that much in the last week or so, she used to do it a lot more when we first got the car.

The front and rear toe was adjusted.

I'd like your opinions please.

The rear is fine don't worry about that..... NSF camber is a bit deep but not end of days. The reason for the drift left is the even castor positions, the NSF could do with an adjuster bolt fitting. What does concern me is the TOOT "Toe Out On Turns" on the OSF -2 degree 33' means when the NSF wheel is on a 20 degree lock right the OSF is at 22 degrees 33' which is to much and will hold the lock.

TOOT is not adjustable so to much or not it doesn't explain why it feels odd now unless they heated the steering arm on the OSF and bent it slightly?

Hi Tony,
The first alignment results were carried out in 2013 which included king pin angles and TOOT etc. Would the discrepancy affect the tyre wear in that way ?

The measurements made yesterday didn't seem to be as comprehensive, or perhaps they were, but they weren't presented to me.

The feel is reasonable, probably due to the fact that I've just recently swapped the wheels/tyres over from the Conti SC5 to Kleber winter all seasons.

The equipment takes relative values and not absolute values I assume ? The reason I ask is that the winter wheels are different offset and width.

In summary, I'm none the wiser after now than a week ago.

The KPI and camber can be combined in order to generate the Included angle. This is used for diagnostics to determine a bend in the sprung or unsprung chassis.

Machines like the Hunter are very clever and can acquire data like wheel diameter automatically it can't however read off-sets but it can inform you where the tyres contact patch is and how many mm of tread is involved.

The readings should be matter of fact but it would seem this time you haven't been given a printout?

first alignment in 2013 was by MB Maidstone bodyshop
Alignment in 2014 was by STS Tyre Pros in East Grinstead

I meant to say "The difference in feel is reasonable, probably due to the fact that I've just recently swapped the wheels/tyres over from the Conti SC5 to Kleber winter all seasons." The aim of the alignment was to make sure the geo is optimised and to correct what I believe is abnormal wear on the outside edge of the front tyres.

The tyres have been on the car for 18000 miles, 5.5mm 5.5mm 5.0mm inside to out, with the edges particularly worn, with the tread at 0mm at the extreme.

Did they give you a printout though.... I know the manager there Andy Herburt tell him Tony Bones from wheels-inmotion wants to see the printout.

Hi Tony,
I've been dealing with Neil - he is on hols at the moment. Spoke to one of the other guys to see if they can get me a reprint. I'll call again on Monday, as I'm keen to get to the bottom of this too. Thanks.

No problem.... If needs be i'll call them for you!!
