Exhaust Advice..

I quite like the badge..... lol

Fancy some gunmetal ones. Any decent wheel ideas anyone? Don't see many CLKs with aftermarket alloys on.

Do what the man says and ditch the badge lol.

Wheel wise it depends on the style you want and whether or not you're willing to lower the car.

If you're not lowering it is imo best to stick with OEM wheels, failing that OEM sizes at least. :thumb:

I got a C32 backbox and it fitted almost straight on my CLK270 CDI. Hangers all correct and pipe same diameter just different fitting at the mid section. 20 minutes cutting and welding and it went on beautifully.

From the cabin there was no discernible note change, from the rear it was just a tad deeper than standard.

Nice, look alot smaller/narrower than a CLK55 tips though?

AFAIK they are identical?

AFAIK they are identical?

CLK ones appear to be 'fatter' and are 50% wider than a C43 pipes for example.

Also, the CLK ones are staggered and have the chrome around the side of the outer pipe (if that makes sense):

Right you are!
The C32 look better quality ;-)

I cut the centre box out of the C32 and cut 8" or so from the old rear box pipe work from the CLK.

Hi MoCLK,

Your location is spot on for Olly at PCS in Horndean for all your servicing needs.

It was serviced 2k miles ago, but will deffo pay a visit up that way soon to get some other bits done.

Had a few questions but didn't want to make a new thread for each one..

- Is it ok to change gearbox mode (sports/comfort/manual) while driving or do you need to be stationary?

- Also is it true that when in comfort mode, if you put the pedal right to the bottom, it goes into sport mode? Read it online but haven't had the chance to test it yet.

- Finally, I read that engine temperature should be around 90c? Anything too much lower and the Thermostat could need replacing? Got 32mpg around town.

Thanks in advance.

Gearbox mode sports/comfort whilst in park position all three whilst on the move is ok. when in manual mode shift up the gears when you want it in auto the numbers change back to "d".

Not sure about the change from "c" to "s" on pedal to floor, on your car i think the only difference is at start as the car either selects 1st or second gear.

No idea on your thermostat?

If you have the kickdown switch engaged then it will always be in S mode.
With the engine off, push your pedal gently to the floor until it stops and then push a little harder to feel the click of the switch.
It's a pointless mode on most CDIs as they perform better by riding the torque curve and not revving round to the red line like petrols do.

Another question... Not sure if I have this feature, but I hear some CLK models adjust to different driving styles? Is there something I should reset, and how? Thanks

I think they all constantly adjust to your current driving style.

Ie with my old W208 CLK if I hammer it about it for a while then cruise the throttle response is sharper and it will hold gears longer which is fine for when you're in the mood but annoying when cruising so I just knock it up a gear with tip which tames it again.

I think there is a way to reset it but I don't think it's necessary tbh, drive it a few miles and it'll adjust to your style.

There is an adaptation feature in the TCU. I think it mainly adjusts shifts to achieve the smoothest possible based on the wear inside the gearbox rather than the driving style, but I could be totally wrong.

Reset through STAR is quick and simple.

All of this means nothing when you have a 6 speed manual lol

I'm sorry to the OP but back box's and carbon wrapping roofs is (imo) a barry boy thing. Not something a merc owner should be considering.

All being said though, its your car, you've paid for it so do what you want to it.

I love my CLK and will continue to for a good few years yet. I understand why the previous owner had it for 6 years now.
