Experience with HIDS Direct LTD

If only Dieselman posted like this more often !

'At 8k, tha Popo would have every last mutha****in right ta ticket you irrespectizzle of tha type of light source. Blue lights is illegal, other than fo' emergency hoopties.'

mr tibbs likes all dis bull****.

Lighting Offences:

  • Blue lights - Under the Road Vehicle Lighting Regulations 1989, it states "except for emergency vehicles it is an offence to fit a blue warning beacon or special warning lamp or device resembling such whether working or not"
  • Fog lights - For vehicles fitted with front fog lights (rear fog lights are also included), it is an offence to illuminate them unless visibility is seriously reduced, which is defined as driving in rain, snow or fog with visibility less than 100 metres. Fog lights cause dazzle to other drivers and can attract a £30 Fixed Penalty Notice.
  • Other lights - It is an offence to show a red light to the front of a vehicle (including a reflector) and a white light to the rear unless reversing. Once again these offences are dealt with by means of a £30 Fixed Penalty Notice. It does not matter if the lights are mounted inside or outside the vehicle, just that the light can be seen from the outside. This would also include neon lights fitted under or on the side of a vehicle and red LED windscreen washer jets. Green lights can only be fitted on Medical Practitioners vehicles.

Has anyone noticed the latest craze of fitting high powered numberplate lamps is making white light visible from the rear.

Now why would anyone want to BETTER illuminate their license plate, is beyond me... :D

I'm sure the look will grow on me sooner or later but I much prefer the warm look of a normal bulb illuminating a number plate.
Same with interior lights. I tried LEDs in my w209 and it felt like a hospital or office block. Went straight back to regular bulbs.

We actually fit hids for a living and tbh 8k is quite popular. So I'm assuming they are not getting into trouble with the police, as no customer has mentioned it.

I thought they were legal to sell but illegal to fit.

What was your business name again?

I seriously cant stand aftermarket HID's.

We tell all our customers that they are illegal on the road and we are installing them for off road use only.

The whole issue with hids is daft, if an individual likes them then good for them, its their money so why not

As for the dazzling issue, i really don't find them such a big issue, I've been dazzled more by the halogens of a suv due to the height.

And even fog lights, ok it can be annoying when there halogen and on all the time, but i personally like the hid/led fog lights, they look as bright as oem drls and no one complains about them.

I salute your scientific approach to road safety.

Those muppets at VOSA clearly have no idea what they are talking about.

I was going to answer but I feel its fuelling a pointless fire (not sure on colour or brightness of fire in case anyone was going to ask)

Allegro Equipe is beautiful though

I was driving along the other day thinking... or trying to whilst being blinded by a blue tinted mind altering scatter from the car behind.

I was wondering if the driver with the custom death rays realised that he had fitted something to his car that broadcasted from a significant distance to all around that the driver of said vehicle was a complete ignoramus.

Whilst fighting through the pain barrier of my retina burn, it also dawned on me that despite being totally blinded by the following particle beams and with no visible means of identifying the car behind, I had little doubt that if I let the car past it would likely turn out to be be a barried up pile of junk and driven by a baseball cap wearing teenager.

Because it's against the law?

Trivial I know.

What do you charge for fitting? Where do you operate? Got a website?

We charge depending on the vehicle.

I see some of the funny comments asking where we are etc, fitting hids is not illegal, using them on the road is, we inform our customers this and the choice is theirs.

Similar to exhaust places, in a few cases decatting will fail mot thus making it illegal, however they still do it is the customers responsibility

Oh and one more thing about dazzling, when fitting hids into reflector headlights you should use the reflector bulb such as a h7r kit, this reduces the scatter and we have tested these during an mot

So let me get this right, you fit them and then watch the customer drive away?

And you don't think you are breaking the law?
