I need some back-up facility for music and photos

Amazon shows dozens of items and the choice is vast

Got some Amazon vouchers for Christmas so I'd like to spend them - budget about £50 - £60 I suppose.

Any ideas on best make / reliability please chaps?

Many thanks

Have to agree

I buy all sorts of kit for work and the WD stuff is great.

Also if you want a neat small set up, try the passport drives that can dock and also get them in different colour, so you could use one for pictures, movies, work etc?

My Passport Essential

this is a single dock version

Western Digital My Passport Elite 500GB USB 2.0 Portable Hard - Charcoal: Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories

but there is a 3 dock veriosn however I cannot seem to locate it.

Also if you do have a problem WD support is great,

I currently use a few WD drives and a WD TV at home and its really good stuff :)

I use a Hitachi 1TB external drive, which has been fine.

TBH if you're just using it for backup pretty much anything should be OK. You only need to have it powered up when you're writing to it, so usage will be trivial.

Shame you don't live closer to me, I have a sony tape library that you could have had for backups

Don't forget to take into account the data transfer speeds; if you're running a Mac, get a drive that's Firewire 800 compatible.

These have dropped in price at last, even PC world do a 1TB for £49.95!!
Sorry can't remember the make of it!:o

WD or Seagate for me -
Staples might be cheaper than PC world

try Dabs.com bought a Netgear Stora NAS £95 with one 500mb disc and one free as it was an offer they were running. Double your back up security and you can fot a 2tb disc in it is you have to upgrade.

My fiend has a 1TB drive with an LED display. He stores films, photos and music. When the kids want to watch a film in another room the take the TB drive with them.

I am considering one
