Facelift W204 headlight woes

It's forks off about 30cm down from the headlight plug.

Nice one I'll have a look for that, so the OEM DRL's plug straight into these, no coding or splicing? They turn on with ignition and dim when the headlights come on?

retrofit part numbers

Ok, I have done one of these upgrades for a customer who had bought a car with everything fitted but basically nothing worked.

Firstly, you need lights from a RHD car if you ever want it to work on RHD, otherwise you will find that when main beam is off, main beam is on and vice-versa. (So customer had to have 2 new lights)

Secondly, you need a loom and a control module called the HLC

Thirdly, you need a Front SAM from a 2012 model (i.e that understands those headlamps and the HLC)

You will probably (age dependent on your car) need a new headlamp switch and to make a new wiring loom for it from the front SAM

Then you need to code everything which is absolutely not simple, you need developer mode, Video etc etc

hi, im trying to do this conversion myself, but can't work out what the HLC unit is or a part number to it. also can i use a front sam with a A212 part number? regards josh

HLC is the headlamp control module - its the interface between the CAN-G and the headlights - on pre-facelift it was built into one of the headlights now it is separate.

Part number dependent on model year. You have to use the correct SAM, and also you need to think about the headlamp switch - that changes for MY2012 too.

I shall throw up a thread with pictures, details and links to buy everything if anyone out there would be interested in doing similar

Hello, did you ever get the facelift conversion done? Do you need different mounting brackets to fit the headlights?

Thanks,
Craig

Sold on to a happy customer as I'll be buying a different car, wether they are plug and play or OEM it's a straight bolt on, no modifications required to fit them to the car mate

Oh of course, if to a prefacelift then you'll need a facelift bonnet, that's it :thumb:

Ah sounds simple if you do not go the OEM headlight route. Has anyone had experience with the 'ebay' lights?

Thanks for the quick responses !

Have you not read this thread? Lol

I thought I initially had problems, but it wasn't. I just needed an pre-facelift to facelift cable adaptor, and had also managed to snag one of the pins myself so a small touch with some pliers and they were good to go

They look exactly the same as OEM. You'll get dash errors even though they work, which is just a case of getting the car plugged into STAR to set it to xenons=on

Try get some which are already internally installed like OEM, I.e the ballast and HID's already fitted as opposed to doing it yourself. I did have a look for some like mine but couldn't find them, all that are for sale from what I could see are fitted with halogen H7's, leaving you the option to fit the HID's yourself but wether you could do the wiring internally or hanging out the back of the dust caps is another story

Great bit of kit though and completely transforms the car :thumb:

Ohhhh sorry, I must have read the thread incorrectly as I thought you had done the OEM parts route. I'll go back and re-read!

I've been looking at these:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/231955542007

I've had a couple of parts from KITT before and have been impressed with the quality. I don't mind not having HID's.

I'm getting warning messages on the dash saying front- left parking light/dipped beam/indicator out which isn't a biggie. I'm assuming I can have theseerror messages cleared on star, or is thatnot possible to just 'delete' error warnings?

Hello ash59fifty-uk,
How did you finally take out all the dashboard errors message ?
Regards,
