You don't have to fit heated seat switches there....there is an entire array of switches you could fit and easily wire up to a useful function that your car may not currently have.

One is the MB door lock switch. Very useful and functional - all you need is two SPDT relays, two timer relays and voila you have a very neat solution for one slot. I have the full wiring diagram if you need as i fitted this to most of my w1254/w126's. You can see the switch as fitted to my previous silver 500E (now owned by Jay on this forum)...i even hooked it up so that the doors automatically lock at 7mph !

the second slot you could fit either a MB dual horn switch or MB Antenna switch.....the dual horn's is cool, one electric, one air. The antenna switch is a nice trick, i fitted to my cars as wel, you can infinitely raise/lower the antenna to any desired height. Useful for when you're moving into spaces with restriced height access.

Another option is a window switch..one which raises / lowers all windows at once. I fitted this to my w126's as well !

Lots of options...heated seats is a very easy mod, about 4 hours work...remove the seats, remove the covers, slot in the heated elements...wiring loom plus relays you could get second hand from a breaker for about 50 quid....run the loom and switches all the way to the left passenger footwell where the loom slots into the power dist unit behind the kick panel.

You could also fit a dome light switch (like the one that controls the rear dome light)....and wire it up to a light in the engine bay.

So long as everything is done using original MB items and looms, it will look
and work well.

For the heated loom, you can use a w124, r129 or late w126 item, all will work.

Dear talbir, I have a door lock switch on the upper dash next to the headrest drop button (which I recently installed) is this the same or different to the switch you mentioned?

My second question is do the switches like the raising and lowering antenna switch just clip into the trim as long as the hole is there, as I understand that buttons were different according to different era cars?

My third question is could you give me a list of switches and functions which could be nifty mods which could be added assuming I have the space available.

Thank you for your advice. :)
