:(

iv just been quoted a whopping £350 to replace a faulty MAF Airflow sensor on my 2000 E220CDi. was originally quoted £125 yesterday, but garage called back today to say its a special one on my model and the lot to replace will be £350. im based in the NW of England, anyone know anyone who can get the part and do it cheaper ?

get the parts number.
Surely someone makes it for them bosch probably.
then go to the bosch dealer in your area and get it with a year guarantee.
that is what i did.
What part of the north west are you?

live in outskirts of blackburn, and the price given was by an independent and not a MB Dealer!

from what iv heard the MAF sensor is reasonably cheap. new ones on ebay for my model £40 inc delivery. AndrewPage who supplies parts to trade was closed today as nobody answered! I have been researchin a bit and have noticed its so so so easy to change a MAF (how can people sleep at night charging £50 to remove a couple of screws i just dont know)!

i was thinking if i bought one of these MaxScan GS500 i could then get the MAF sensor, fit it myself and erase the fault code myself (can this stuff erase codes from the display?) all for a third of what iv been quoted, plus in future i have a diagnostic tool that'll come handy :)

thoughts most welcome

People have had problems with MAF's from Ebay ...

would not recommend ebay maf.
you can buy the sensor and fit it yourself.
i bought the whole housing and fitted mine.

Do a search and you will see buying a MAF from ebay is not good, deffinatly not recomended at all. Best to get from Bosch dealer (cheapest for original part)

I have bought 2 MAFs on eBay for around £80 each. OEM Mercedes sealed boxes and had no problems with either of them. Caveat Emptor - check the seller's feedback.

The check engine light should just go out after a a few miles and the DTC discarded as old - no need to reset it in my experience.

MB Maf's are either Bosch or Pirre (cant spell it) if a MAF on EBay is a genuine one and you can ask then there should be no problem

is that really so?

i always thought fault messages could only be cleared by the diagnostics equipment?

if that is the case il have a go myself!

can anyone confirm this is correct?!

Some fault codes have to be reset - some don't - it depends on how 'serious' the code is. The code will still be held as an old problem but it won't affect the car in this case.

Often the MAF will through up codes, but in many cases they are not for the MAF things like the 02 sensors try and compensate and move from their stored settings.

for most codes they can just stay in the memory, and do not affect the running if the lights go out
