So with all the technology that the Mercedes have these days, I was driving to work this morning switching between playing music over bluetooth/the radio and playing music from the usb stick (it's a long drive!), with all the music I have available I just could not find a song I wanted to listen to.

Just out of curiosity really...what music/albums do people enjoy listening to whilst driving their beloved Mercedes?

Cass Fox is grat to listen to on long night time drives.

In this spring like, warm weather. I have chosen to listen to CCR Credence Clearwater Revival this morning. Perhaps a bit of Led Zep on the way home. Late night (for me) drive home tonight - Babysitting at our daughters.

All on CD. Non of your fancy nancy stuff in my Mercedes, though my Sony Radio/CD player can take an external "jack" and is hands free for the cursed mobile.

As a side issue -Is it "babysitting" or "childminding" nowadays. The two little "terrors" I'm looking after tonight are 2 and very nearly 5.

Dont know what kind of taste you guys have but i have a cd from Lee Scratch Perry called DUB Echoes it is amazing to listen to.

Pulse - Pink Floyd
It is the live concert from 1994 (I was there) at Earl's Court and covers a good range of their work.
Love Over Gold - Dire Straits.

Yes, the whole Dad Rock oeuvre might have been made to be played in the car, partly because it has a narrow enough dynamic range to be consistently audible at a comfortable volume above the noise floor of engine drone and tyre roar.

I don't mean this to sound at all disparaging - there's plenty of AC/DC, Purple and Whitesnake in my CD wallet. (Not much Zeppelin or Floyd, though - I missed them the first time round and never caught up.).

Steve Earle's story-driven early and middle-period stuff is great on a long journey - his words paint a picture and draw you into his world. Likewise the peerless Ian Dury - 'My Old Man' is a brilliantly concise portrait both of a working man of a previous generation and of an imperfect father-son relationship, and all in five verses.

At home I listen to a lot of chamber and orchestral music, but much less in the car because too much detail gets lost in the background noise. The E I'm looking for may be better in this respect - haven't really had a chance to try that yet.

Finally, a special mention for Martin Taylor's Hot Club-inspired 'Spirit of Django'. That one's all about the situation - off the ferry and hitting the westbound A84 towards Rennes. More than anything else, that says to me "We're on holiday!"

David Garrett on his fiddle.

About 80% of music I have on my SD card in the car is classic: Mozart, Vivaldi, Brahms, Chopin, some Beethoven, Tchaikovsky and others ... One of my favourite albums is Virtuoso:

I have about 4 "driving playlists" on the ipod and which one I listen to kinda depends on the mood and trip.

Driving Miss Crazy = rock orientated with plenty of Led Zep, Hendrix, Nirvana, G 'n R, etc

Driving Classics = selection of various classical pieces from Vivaldi, Wagner, Grieg, etc

Chilled Swing = pipe and slippers time. Matt Monro, Sinatra, Andy Williams and co

BBC Comedy = spoken word. Old Harry's Game, Mitchell & Webb Sound, Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, etc. BBC R4 comedy classics mainly

I was and alwasy will be in awe of the ipod - as I don't use it for video I have over 12 days of continuous play content on one tiny box! Awesome thing.

If I am in the car:

Smashing Pumpkins
Little Barry
Paramore
Lost Prophets
Foo Fighters
Nirvana
Sonic Youth
Wu Tang Clan

Anything alternative.....on the iPhone

If my 2 year old daughter is in the car

Same as above, but with added 'Shrek' on the DVD player for the long distance outings. My daughter loves Slipknot - makes her giggle like crazy.

^^ Also have allot of classical stuff; from Carmina Burana to Carnival of the Animals....and a bit of Opera thrown in for good measure.

I've been drivin' all night, my hand's wet on the wheel
There's a voice in my head that drives my heel
It's my baby callin', says I need you here
And it's a half past four and I'm shiftin' gear
When she is lonely and the longing gets too much
She sends a cable comin' in from above
Don't need no phone at all
We've got a thing that's called Radar Love
We've got a wave in the air, Radar Love
The radio is playing some forgotten song
Brenda Lee's comin' on strong
The road has got me hypnotized
And I'm speedin' into a new sunrise
When I get lonely and I'm sure I've had enough
She sents her comfort comin' in from above
We don't need no letter at all
We've got a thing that's called Radar Love
We've got a light in the sky

If I am on a decent drive then I like early Floyd, Joni Mitchell, Shawn Colvin, Kenny Loggins etc.

There is a part of me that likes rock music so that gets a fair play at times.
