Filled C320 Diesel with petrol - any advice?

NO ...you would have an attachment in the boot like a funnel with a triangular nozzle....Oh well it was just a thought...and thoughts are free...but yes you're right the logistics would be a nightmare -- what next we all drive on the right..lol

Yup just got to get all the vehicle manufacturers to agree, get every forecourt around the world changed, work out the timing (your new diesel car has the triangular neck and you pull into a station with round nozzles - you're stuffed) ... simple :D

Just like Baldrick, I have a cunning plan. :)

Stage 1. Introduce triangular nozzles at filling stations. Triangle sized so that nozzle will fit into existing fuel tank fillers. Hopefully it should be immediately obvious if you pick up a nozzle with a round end that it's the wrong one.

Stage 2. Some four or five years later, manufacturers introduce triangular filler holes to make the system totally idiot proof.

I have a feeling that triangular nozzles would be a no-no unless you incorporated a swivel of some sort in the handle. Otherwise twisting the handle would put a fair bit of stress on the filler neck. That would also solve the problem of having the car 'triangles' all oriented the same (you'd get the filler sticking out at funny angles otherwise).

I also have a cunning plan which I've used for years...READ THE WORDING ON THE PUMP BEFORE PULLING THE TRIGGER..

It seems to work and has thus far been infallible with NO setup costs.

Yes but that's too easy. :D :D

Thats tempting fate, next week you'll be posting up about how you filled your diesel with petrol! :D

Take you fashion black sun glasses off too when filling.

Malcolm

I think you've hit the nail ont he head here. people that fill with the wrong fuel want a dumbed down infallible system because they just can't be bothered to look after themselves, but don't want to take the blame either....

:bannana:
Hey I have another plan....bring back attended service pumps. Lots of unemployed put back to work (or Immigrants or whatever) so instead of getting benefits they actually work and the taxes saved from benefits are used to pay their wages - so no fuel price increases....

Somehow Methinks I'm now about to be put against a wall & shot for a non - PC comment.

That's not fair. When a bloke has had a few pints and is stumbling around the forecourt, hugging the pumps and doing the raised eye-brows followed by intense scrutiny of the wording at close-range, it is a blessing when you manage to grab the handle of any of them and getting it into the tank is a real challenge. Subtle details of petrol or diesel are hardly important when one is so challenged.
At least this is what I suggested to Mrs Dr Bonzo when she did this, a lady renowned for her precision and attention to detail. Her reply suggetsed another place one could insert either a diesel or petrol nozzle.

To all those who think it can't happen to them, i can't even be bothered to argue it but it happens we are not all perfect.

Now is that some sort of new sexual practice????:bannana: :bannana: :bannana:

Best after sniffing petrol.

Talking about sexual differences...

Considering that approximately 1 in 20 men are colour-blind to some extent, and 1 in 200 women are also similarly afflicted, it's small wonder that refueling errors of this sort don't happen a lot more often.

If we could get the fuel marketing folks to agree on colour-independent and international standards for designating auto-refueling apparatus, we would make a large dent in the rate of these sorts of incidents.

But I fear the concept of marketing and standards are mutually exclusive.

Mercedes even have a special Bulletin to their dealers to give them guidance on how and what to repair after a refueling error.

Are you sure about this?

My understanding was that 80% of men have some colour deficiency and women normally can't be colour blind.
Colour deficiency doesn't mean colour blind, just not able to detect the full spectrum of colours and hues.
It's all to do with Rods and Cones in the retina. Men have a greater proportion of Rods and women more Cones. Rods give good b/w vision cones colour.
This is the real reason why women find it difficult to see at night and men are more able.

I would be interested in any factual information as we use colour blind tests at work for almost universaly male staff.

The question though is does this stop them reading the writing on the pump....or is that dyslexia....and another question if dyslexia = word blindness why is it so damn hard to spell???

I suspect this is the problem. People go to filling station A an dthe pumps are coloured in a certain fashion. They then go to filling station B and pick the same colour pump, which is another product entirely.

Why not just read the pump?

probably because people have 101 other things on their minds, are stressed, distracted, in a rush and are not 'into cars' and so are less aware/unaware of the damage that can be done by using the wrong fuel than most of us on this forum!

Do you ever get the feeling that we are going round in circles here????

What's next? Someone will suggest triangular nozzles......:bannana:
