Formula 1 2020 (Will Contain Race Day Spoilers)

I suppose it was inevitable the Seb would end up at 'Dustbin Martin' A name tag earned when the cars were 'hand' built at Newport Pagnell.....

The thing that is more surprising to me is that when I teamed up with Eddie Jordan in 1981, I had absolutely no idea where his team would eventually end up  Whoever would have thought that 'Eddie Jordan Racing' would, over almost 40 years, morph into Aston Martin Grand Prix.
That is beyond even a James Bond plot!
Is there much of EJR DNA left or is it like Murphy's broom?

Well first practice is upon us and VB has gone out and done a 1.20 on hard tyres the car looked very good on this track, early days yet but to go out with the set up of the car not changed in any way and do that, when other teams are coming in to change things,is a interesting fact.

Interesting, MotoGP are about 30 seconds a lap slower than the F1 cars. Just shows how quick F1 cars are in the corners.

Just saw a graphic on the Skypad, Lewis is pulling more than 5G in the corners!!

MotoGP bikes are really quick and it's really eye opener to see the the lap times of high downforce cars compared to them.
I the early 90's we spent 10 days testing at the Eastern Creek circuit near Sydney where people were used to seeing the bikes run.
We were asked by locals what sort of times our 3.5 litres Gp C Toyota was doing. "About 1:13" I said. "Don't you mean 1:33" came the reply.
That was the best time for a bike around there. We were 20 secs quicker and the car was quick enough to break Andy Wallace's rib on a bump in the 5g flat out first turn.....

Well VB seems more at home on this track than LH,but the Mercedes are doing what they have done all season and it is difficult to see the Red Bulls getting within .3 of a second a lap,and the winner of the last F1 race is around 1.3 seconds adrift.

Lewis said he's happy with sector 3, but still has work to do to get the best out of the other two sectors. He also said Valteri had done a better job today.

I don't know how it's going to be for the race, but this track is so much better (to me) than Monza. The drivers can't take the p!ss on track limits, it requires a lot of commitment to get the best lap time. Looking forward to the rest of the weekend.

Well the team hasn't changed it's Silverstone location, so there is possibly more DNA left in the current Racing Point than there is Tyrell in the current Mercedes team. Tyrell, BAR, Honda, Brawn, Mercedes....but I think the Trigger's broom law applies to both ;)

I grew up near Silverstone, though didn't really take much interest in motor racing until I met my better half in '77. I worked a few hundred yards further along Murdock Road from March, watched Brundell vs Senna in F3 and remember when EJR was formed, and then Jordan Grand Prix. Interesting that RP are still on the same Silverstone site as EJR. I wondered whether they'd built a new factory at some point (haven't lived there since the late 80's).

Tyrell-Mercedes? Wasn't aware of the linkage? I thought that Mercedes were linked more directly (if indirectly) to Adrian Reynard who moved his business from Bicester to the Brackley site, than to Ken Tyrell, who I thought was based in Surrey(?).

BAR took over the Tyrell entry in F1 when they stepped away and Dave Richards and Adrian formed BAR.
RP still work out of the same building as Jordan F1 and I was back in there in 2014 (in VJ's office) lecturing on race engineering. The very same office that EJ had when the place was built in 91.
I spent the winters of 78, 79 and 80 working at March in Murdock Road.....teams tended to operate only during the season back in those far distant days!

Cool, thanks for that.

I worked at Perren Fire Protection which was down at the end of the road, from '78 to 80.

This may come to an end as I'm sure Mr Stroll is building a new factory. Not sure if it's on the same site or not

Well LH is quiet ruthless, and I have a suspicion that with VB leading in all the three practices, you will see LH finish Bottas for the season,by winning the qualifying,Bottas badly needs a pole but if he loses this chance his head will go down, anyway we will see in 15 minutes.

Good result for LH while stretching his pole lap record further. VB was so close. Again.

I have to ask why is Albon so far away from Max? I know it's been said that Max get's whatever new upgrades first but 0.5 seconds of the pace? Surely RB would want him closer.

I did enjoy watching F3 earlier today. Such a great and close race but the pace of the F1 cars in comparison was night and day. These F1 cars can certainly move.

Lastly, it does annoy me that the presenters refer to the lack of Ferrari pace. Isn't that obvious but while regurgitating the same old nonsense while it was clear that they were cheating last year. Are they not allowed to remind people why they are so slow this year?

Rant over but I enjoyed watching Qually :-)

Valteri's final attempt and Max's were compromised by Ocon's little waltz along the gravel in sector one. I don't think Max would have got up there, but Valteri may well have improved on his first run. But, good pole from Lewis.

With gravel as opposed to smooth tarmac runoffs, how many safety cars are we expecting tomorrow?
And it seems some of the gaps in the barrier are not big enough to get an F2 car through. So at least one safety car tomorrow, then another one following the chaotic restart...

Disappointing run from Gasly, after winning the last GP, getting out in Q1 would not have been what he wanted.

Yep, gone from Masterly to Gastly... He may have better day tomorrow.
