It's normally the spring. That shouldn't need any cost to diagnose. The normal advice is to get both replaced as chances are the other one will fail (sometimes the first one collapsing causes the other side to go at the same time).

I'd be disinclined to drive it in case broken bits of fall spring cause any interference with the brakes or the wheel arch gets damaged if you go over a bump when turning.

Defo the spring , and thanks for the advice Dryce - ive heard replacing both is recommened so will do both . But as i remember the rear spring has like 5cm of it ripped of as it sat in its puddle - so i will change all 4 springs now. Wonder how much the cost gna be

Ive asked kwik fit , halfords and such - they come back saying its a pain in the backside to do therfore they dont have the correct equipment to do it so they said take it to MB.

Is this true

Think yourself very lucky you don't have air suspension as you could have been talking many £,£££'s. Hope you get it sorted soon.

Front springs need a specific tool to get the job done in reasonable time. You also need exactly the right set of springs for your car.

A decent independent MB specialist will (a) have the tools and (b) know about the model suspension variations and order the right springs.

2 years ago I had a rear spring break on my CLS, main dealer charged me £429 to replace both, I would of thought that the fronts will be more expensive due to it being more involved labour wise. good luck...........

Front offside went on my W211 about 18 months ago. Local Indie replaced it next day for a really reasonable price (<£150 from memory). Only had that one done as local main dealer only had the one spring in stock. The other side has held up so far but probably ought to get it done sometime.

just got a price from Mercedes for the springs

£115.92 inc VAT for fronts
£152.40 inc VAT for rear

£268.32 for parts
£000.00 waiting on the cost of labour

From eurocarparts
£190.86 for all 4 springs - might aswell pay £80 more to get genuines

Ask for a discount from your main dealer, you may be surprised.
