Season's greetings one and all...

Went to do the school run this morning and discovered my front right corner an inch off the ground - jeez, what now? :dk:

I guess something has failed and just needs loads of money throwing at it right?

My local mechanic hopes to get to me today but might be Monday, anybody give me an insight into what the likely culprit is?

Very grateful for any insight!

Thanks

Sounds like a broken suspension spring, have you looked inside the wheel arch?

broken spring I expect. unless you have airmatic?

Err.. kind of. Not much to see as the wheel has taken up all the area. I thought it's be something to do with the air suspension ive reading about. although i dont know if mine has that or it's standard etc.

What would i be looking for?

BIG thank BTW for responding :)

Perhaps best to wait for your mechanic? Clearly do not drive it as it would be dangerous and possibly cause further damage.

If you have air suspension, you'll find a switch inside which lifts the vehicle for uneven terrain.

Steel springs are far more common and they tend to break a lot around this time of the year.

Thanks guys, it turns out it is the spring that's broken. Should be back on the road in a couple of days.

Very common for this to happen overnight when it gets cold.

The normal advice is to replace both front springs. They often go simultaneously - the first one failing causing the one on the other side to go.

Glad it is something relatively simple and cheap, are you getting both front springs changed?

I don't agree that two both go together, that's not to say that they shouldn't be fitted in pairs.
The spring typically corrodes, usually around the last two turns, this creates a weakness which is where they break (on or about the pigtail.)
