Apologies if this is in the wrong forum, I thought about engine in technical but not even sure it's that.

Driving an A160, had for a good while serious consumption problems it usually hovers around 14 to the gallon and has dropped to as low as 8. Is on maintenance contract Mercedes had a look said 6 leaks in fuel pipe, supposedly fied them proble still there. Then fixed more leaks. Problem still there. They then said there was something near the exhaust that mixes gasses that was broken and they think they broke it when doing a service so they fixed that, problem still there.

It's really cheesing me off having to pump so much money in for petrol and the officla combined consumption is supposed to be around 38mpg, what on arth could be going wrong, reliability of this car has just been so awful.

If anyone has any ideas about what could be up would be really grateful to hear for when it goes in for another service on Wednesday.

Thanks all.

is the car running ok? Are there other symptoms like stalling, poor starting? if the consumption is that bad, it should be running soooo rich that it wont run at all or at least very roughly. If it is over fuelling, should be looking to lambda sensor, cold start device, various sensors!! the list is endless. has the dealer had it on star? only thing I can say for sure, if the fuel consumption problem IS down to throwing it through the engine, surely the cat is gunna fail v. soon!!! I know I dont have to tell you to get it sorted asap! sorry I cant help more:(
