:) I doubt many buyers of E class estates have fuel economy at the top of their priorities list, mine were refinement, solid engineering and space, however with increasing fuel prices it is a consideration.
After reading posts on the forum about decreased fuel mileage in the cold condtions, I wasn't expecting too much from my E220 CDI Estate. The fact that it has the added weight and drag of the taller body, Euro 1V complience and a particulate filter and is an auto with fat tyres didn't bode well.
So I was suprised to see 60mpg this week in the freezing cold! It was not the quickest journey (due to traffic) and I have achieved a smidge over 40 mpg in summer in my wifes C180 auto previously, so I must be doing something wrong!
I'm glad to be sitting comfortably and knowing that I'm not soley responsible for global warming and only have to see a filling station after 700miles! :)
Does anyone else get these sort of figures?

My last tank was 18 :D

Hehehe - long motorway cruises average c26mpg. Short local journeys can result in a single figure mpg, and a single figure quietly sobbing at the petrol pump. You have to have some fun in life though eh?! :)

Around 35 overall and 40 on runs but most of this is on motorway at around 120kph, which I guess is somewhre between 72 and 75 mph.

My VW Sharan has averaged 19.8 mpg over the last 2500 miles!

I bought an Audi A6 estate 1.9tdi last year, now got approx 8K on the clock- manufacturers claim average mpg to be high 40's. Usual running around is journeys of 4 to 10 miles. With a very light right foot I am only getting approx 33mpg. Hols to South of France last year - auto route driving - only achieved mid to high 30's. Tried complaining at main dealer but they said all was ok & engine would loosen up after 7k miles. 7K has been & gone - no difference yet

I guess a 1.9 tdi is working pretty hard in a car the size of the A6. Mind you motorway cruising should be better than that, I get up to 29 mpg from my SL (5 litre V8 and nearly 2 tonnes!) with lots of motorway.

PS I was told 10k miles for the petrol 2.8 in my Sharan to fully loosen up.

that is a completely amazing figuere for the euro IV engine. the one we had in the W211 estate was useless !!

couldnt get it average much more than about 35mpg. those on the forum know i don't ahve a lead right foot when my 270cdi hits 60 on a regular basis..

But , wow !!

Sorry to bring back this old thread but my babe really amazed me today... 275 mile round trip to Northampton through rush hour (which included 40 mins slug speed due to rubber necking!!!!)
cruise set to 70 mph

38.4MPG!!!!!!!!!!!
not bad for a 2.3 turbo that has done 153,000 miles!

Well I'm getting 29MPG (average) from my 4,500-mile, 55-plate BMW 535d Sport and curiously, 24MPG from the 1995, 98,000-mile BMW 730i V8 (Petrol) hack I bought for 2 grand...:o

What's more, I drive the older car to the studio in town on a daily basis, while the posh car is only used for weekends and business meetings etc., so the diesel is doing very little stop/start driving. Go figure, as they say...

OMG - having driven Diesel cars for the last 5 yrs..... Seein as i do a lot of motorway driving, i was used to getting 400-500 miles from a tank of £40.00...., but with the CLK ... i'm struggling to get over 300... ouch

Motorway runs - @ 30 - 33 mpg
Local runs - 20 mpg :0(

However a consolation - today weather was beautiful and had the hood down on the way back from work.......

Best I have got so far from the E320 CDi is 41 mpg on a long motorway journey, with cruiser control set at 70 mph. This seems low compared to some of the quoted figures. Any ideas what a 320 should be doing?

2003 E320cdi estate. overall average 35.7mpg. On long A road/Mway runs 41-43 mpg usually cruising at 85ish

I thikn i had around 34/5 mpg on a trip to london in my c320 (petrol) but on average was around 28mpg.

Awesome figures though! i am now averaging 22mpg (according to the car..) and i get around 300+ on a full tank now.. sorry its jap crap:D

my 2005 280CDI averages 34.45 and the best was on a recent trip to and from Switzerland where I avergaed 44.
