I plan to change the fuel filter on my car.

The filter is a replaceable canister (not an insert). I have looked at the fittings on the top, one is a hose with a normal hose clip. The fitting into the centre of the filter is a strange looking black plastic arrangement with a white U-shaped clip going through it.

Has anyone come across this fitting, and if so how do I remove it (and refit it on the new filter) without breaking the delicate plastic parts?

Thanks
Duncan

If its anything like the fuel pipes on mine, you push the white U-shaped clip inwards, this pushes the clasps outwards, and allows you to pull the fitting off.

Did you buy the filter from Mercedes?

Thanks, I will try pushing the white U-clip in. Does it then require force to pull it off, or should it come off easily?

I bought the filter from www.mercedes-benz-parts.co.uk (Mercedes Benz of Oxford).

It should come out fairly easily, saying that though I recently did the fuel pipes to the shutoff valve and the bottom one was unbelieveably difficult to remove.

The clip should make an audible 'click' when pushed in.

Make sure you pay particular attention to the position of any O-rings, if you miss one the engine won't run.

Make sure you fill the new filter with fuel before you put it back on, it will make starting the car a bit easier, and make sure you run the engine for at least a minute when finished.

If the car needs a lot of cranking, once its started take it out for a run so the battery gets a bit of charge.

The filling the filter bit doesn't really apply on CDI engines as there is an electric lift pump in the tank.

what is the part number of the w203 fuel filter.
