Fuel smell

My A160 [ year 2000 ] absolutely stinks of petrol on starting from cold, but not every time. I have replaced the short hose in the engine bay that goes to the fuel rail as this was leaking, but still have this problem.
I seem to recall reading somewhere about a mod for the vent hose that runs from the fuel tank to the charcoal canister but cannot find details [ part numbers etc ].
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance..

Fuel leaks are difficult to find; I know as I had the smallest of leaks at the fuel pump but failed to find it myself. Get it checked out by someone who knows how the A class hangs together. Sorry can't add any technical know how - hope you resolve this soon
