Natalies daughter opened the garage door from inside and the bar connecting the handle in the centre of the up and over door to the twin "prongs" which serve to lock the door has detached itself. Pieces flew everywhere and I am pretty certain I dont have them all.

the handle on the door says its a classic (is this the manufacturer??) If anyone has a similar door could they post me a picture of what it should look like. Would ask the neighbours but everyone seems to be away for the long weekend (added to which its raining here and no one is out)

cheers

matt

It will be an old Henderson mechanism.

The operation is really simple. The square hole fits over the square handle drive and pulls the rods in as required.

You should be able to make it work with a few screws and bolts, etc, failing that try the manufacturer or a garage door fitting company, even for an old part off one they have changed.

Yes most garage door firms have loads of scrap ones normally

You do not have to run and duck,, Living in Sweden altered my taste buds and I could soon taste the traffic way before central London.

In Lyme Bay we have the cleanest air in Europe, with the lowest acid fall, and I have become very sensitive to these things now

Like Mother, Like Daughter eh?

Don't let them touch anything every again!

You are right,,it could have been much worse,,I was called out last week where the swing arm on a spring loaded up and over door came away from the woodwork and the door fell on the car.
To get it down you have to unwind the wire ropes, and very hard to do when one side is up.

Just think if matts car had been in there with those metal bars flying around

I hate these Henderson stupid garage door. If you push up and pull down the door on one side several times, the cable get misaligned around the roller drum then it takes ages to get the cable aligned again. To ensure it does not happened I make sure I push up and pull down from the centre of the door.
