Key fobs.

To remove the board when they have the plastic strip under the board, just insert a thin bladed knife to release the catch seen on the white piece.

When the remote locks OK but the key does not turn it will be the transponder pick up coil open circuit, thats the little black long thing that I have removed from the PCB, not sure if I remove 1 turn if it will still work, that is if it is possible, or better to buy and Ebay key and change the coil.

the coil in the picture is only is only 1mm in diameter and the wire is as thin as a hair

Many thanks for posting the picture. Before the PCB is disassembled on which side of the housing viewed from the rear, buttons down, is the catch?

As part of a tuned circuit (as I'm sure you know!) it could be quite critical so the replacement part option seems the better choice. :)
I love doing stuff like this but my eyesight is not good enough anymore. One of things I dislike about the years advancing.

Put the knife in the button side.

Yes it is part of the tuned circuit, I think that an Ebay key gives you a new case and coil, and that must be the best option.

I have terrible eyes and should never have gone into this line, but thats some 59 years too late, I have to do these under a high grade magnifier with a diopter.

Sorry I didn't make myself clear, I was trying to ask which side of the white nylon bar I should be aiming for? I have gently moved the knife blade across but not felt the catch. Somewhat terrified of knocking loose an SMD component though...

I'm in awe of your ability, magnifier or not. :)

It's towards the right hand side with the buttons facing down. You need to pull the board at the same time.

I just did mine with some mini snipe nosed pliers to check for you..

After taking the key apart I noticed it is different to the one pictured previously, was that a Das2 or Das3 key?

Das3 key innards.

and after putting it back together it's nice to know it's working Ok by pointing it at a digital camera and watching the IR pulses.

Much appreciated! :)

I thought... I'd felt something on the opposite side and then chicken'd out. :D

By the way I hope to acquire a key soon and if so I will donate the guts of it to anyone that needs spares. [fingers crossed]

This key word for locking it was just the transponder bit, you had better see if it turns in the lock.

I see the coil on that one is around the end, so no damage when dropped

The one I have is DAS11

It is IR , and it is the pick up coil from the lock transponder that energizes the LED that has gone

Thought the Das2 was RF, and that looked like a standard transponder key. do you have a pic of the complete key?

No its 3 this is my key, a 2002 car, the coil in question is not the same but would fit the other key, all of the keys use this shape use the IR when in the ign lock

Thanks for the info on this, I hope you also have some luck with my Garage Door Remote, it should arrive with you tomorrow.

Thanks again, this forum really is a very helpful place.

The garage door opener was received this morning :) and has been repaired and it will go in the post at midday today.

I will have a go at the other one, but as from the week end I will be away for 2 weeks, so it must wait for my return.

The Xtal fell off :)

Malcolm, I am amazed, I could not even work out how to get the innards from the case. If you could let me know what I need to do, I could have a go at the other one.

By the way what is the XTAL?

Thank you very much indeed again, I am delighted.:)

You can post it to me when I get back, these things are so simple for me to do

Xtal = crystal, a preset very accurate tuning device used to lock an oscillator at a fixed frequency.

OK will do, It may well be waiting for you when you get back.:D

Do bare in mind when you get it back that the battery had to be removed and a may require a re sync, but I do not know for sure, it will be in the handbook
