Got a new 722 plug and from what I have read nobody says you have to drain the gearbox 1st...
So my question is, if I just remove the old plug...will all (or just a bit/or how much) of the auto box oil come out?
I know most do a full gearbox service at the same time but, if not broke don't fix it....and only the plug leaks so idealy just want to replace it ready for its very soon due MOT.

Thanks
Rossy

hi did mine about 1 month ago and you dont have to drain sump some fluid will come out but not that much i lost about 1/4 of a litre
be careful when tightening 7mm bolt as you can easily strip threads

THANKS!!!

Thought as much but better safe....did not wont it all over me or my garage floor...:thumb:

The small 7mm bolt may not come undone,if you feel it spinning and not loosening it means the threaded brass retainer is spinning.. If that happens its a new electrical plate...

If it doesn't come undone don't force it!

Your scaring me now...cheers....

Yep, be afraid be very afraid as this can be pricey. I had my plug done and the indie did warn me before starting!

Happened on my c43.. £25 plug became £300 in parts alone!

Piece of P, all done....came off with hand too...so no leverage needed....replaced ring on the electrical connector too.
Good clean with Electrical cleaner and a good clean off the gearbox and tray...all good and hopefully cured!!

Thanks for the help....to nice to be in so off forra spin!

Any Merc owners meeting up today around Manchester/Bolton??

I do another post for replies...
