Gearbox Oil e270 cdi w211

First post, very informative forums!

Just bought e270 cdi avantgarde 2004 54 plate, great so far but just one question.

The gearbox oil was changed at 59,000 miles (now at 83,000) and as far as I can tell this is a non service item (ie it should last the life of the car)?

My specialist (Mercedes trained) seems to think that there is a definite judder aka the coolant issue that affected cars up to September '03, does anyone know of this issue persisting with later cars?

Hello Adrian and welcome to the forum, the guys and gals are all great here.

Your car, yes we had an 04 car come through two months back, the car was registered ½ way through 04.

The only way to go at this stage is with an MB dealer for a glycol test, I would leave any conversation with an indie out of the conversation while this is going on, as MB could wash their hands with the whole thing if your fluid is contaminated

Mine is a 53 plate 2004 reg but it was manufactured prior to the valeo deadline. Check the exact manufacturer date and also check if you have the valeo radiator.

Thanks guys checked delivery date, 27/7/04.

I'll have a good look to see if it has a valeo radiator.

Also has a leak from the high pressure fuel pump (engine front) so I suppose whilst it's still under a 3 month limited warranty I'd better get these issues sorted.

this is a couple of months later the the last 04 car. Some MB dealers charge for the glycol test, some do not

You can pick up the valeo issue on two counts, there is a droning humming at 1800-2000rpm and the first couple of gears are juddering on changing and take off.

Well, after a lot of toing and froing I think I've now got to the bottom of this.

I took the car to my local MB dealer in Bridgend to do an initial once over and they were adamant that the gearbox was faulty and that I should reject the car.

With some considerable persuasion the supplying dealer agreed to liaise with MB on my behalf.

Car went in last week to another MB dealer in Cardiff and the verdict has come back:

Glycol test - negligable content

Star test - no faults

Chassis number outside of scope of those cars affected

Road test - slight wobble

verdict, mismatched rear tyres which needed re-balancing. Apparently problem solved.

I'm due to pick the car up on Monday so fingers crossed the outcome is as good as it sounds.

I wish the original dealer that I took it to had been a little more thorough and a little less scare mongering!!
