I can see this car from both sides, I don't think anyone with enough money to buy the car itself and then spend fortunes on it is going to buy it anyway.
If you had lots of cash you would just buy a clean one, and you'd pay handsomely for it - several ££££.
If someone just wants it to smoke about in, I can't see why they shouldn't. As long as you buy it with your eyes open and don't overpay for it, it'd still be a fine runaround car for not much money.
Ie, get the gearbox fault sorted out, a quick clean and polish, get a new window mech and a rear lense from a breaker's yard - sorted
If the gearbox goes bang, sell it back on for spares/repairs or look for one out of a breaker's yard.
Can't lose much cash at this sort of price point.
