As above. I've read a few posts on here about having the gearbox reset somehow after oil change. I'm not sure what this means and if my 722.6 gearbox needs resetting. Cheers chappies.

Hi Tony..
I have had ATF and filter done a total of 4 times now on the various Mercs I have owned.
Not once was the Gearbox "Reset" so I don't think its needed.

I have heard that on the 7 speed boxes you can have the "adaptions" set up IF youre having shift quality issues but its certainly not something that is done just for the sake of it..

2 of the 4 times I have stood and watched it being done and again I say nothing was "reset".

Hope this helps mate.

Right. I've just gone on the Comma web site and put my reg in and according to that I've got the correct oil. Relief as want to do it tomorrow. phew.

Word of warning Tony - If you have the touch of a "baby elephant" like me, watch you dont round off the sump pan bolt heads. Gravity is a magic thing when you take off the filter too, its usually full!! And goes right down your arm!!

Thanks for the warning john. When i've drained it there will still be some in there as the car is on an angle as on my ramps. wish me luck. Will keep everyone posted as to how it went, cheers.

That's what I like to see..
A nice early start.. I sense the excitement tinged with trepidation !!
Are you going to flush the torque converter as well ?

Its done by ..
1. Change filter and fluid as per usual and refit sump pan and torque the bolts to correct settings.
2. Add 3 - 3.5 litres of ATF
3. Removing the hose that goes from the gearbox to the cooler in the radiator and then run the engine for a few minutes (In Park)..
The new fluid pushes the old fluid out of the torque converter..
Refit the hose to the Gearbox then you re top up the ATF to the correct level.
Actually there is a excellent How to below..

I've done mine twice and a word of warning, it doesn't take 4 minutes with the engine running to get the old oil out of the torque convertor, more like about 4 seconds! It was a bit messy to be polite, the 2nd time I had an old banjo connector with pipe on which I fitted into the bell housing, a lot more controlled. If you were nearer you could have the banjo.

I think you can do a reset by disconnecting the battery for 30 mins then connecting it and leaving the key in position 2 for 20 mins, a search on the site will give more accurate info than my memory. The downside of that is it resets other stuff too, -windows, sunroof , stereo, etc.

I think you will also get error codes when disconnecting battery?

I haven't from my 2000 facelift CLK though newer ones might I guess. The BAS and ABS lights come on at first but then reset themselves.

Some forum sponsor might tell you its a placebo effect but heres the info anyway.

Applicable to Mercedes W211 722.6 (2003-2006)

Reset Adaptive Gearbox/Throttle Settings:

This ECU reset procedure only erases the ADAPTIVE transmission & throttle settings. It does not erase any of the fuel/timing or other programming.

1. Put the key into the ignition and turn it clockwise to position 1 (first position).

2. Press the throttle pedal to the floor and hold for five seconds.

3. Turn the ignition key anti-clockwise to position 0 (Off), then release the throttle pedal. DO NOT remove the ignition key.

4. Wait at least two minutes for ECU to reset.

Also you can try this procedure too.

(1) Switch OFF the climate control and radio.
(2) Close ALL doors.
(3) Turn Ignition key to all dash lights ON position(not as far as start though)
(4) Press and hold the accelerator to the floor for 20 seconds.
(5) With Accelerator still to the floor, turn the key to the OFF position DONT REMOVE IT YET.
(6) Slowly lift your foot off the accelerator.
(7) Sit for 2 minutes DONT TOUCH ANY SWITCHES.
(8) Remove the ignition key and exit the car.
