Hi,

We have a Mercedes C220 Sports Coupe (automatic) 143bhp.

I have read about people doing a gearbox reset?

What is this and how can it be done?

Thanks

Paul

Your car has a short term memory that will adapt to your driving style, other than that there is a very small memory for a few fault codes.

There is nothing official about any re sets that have been going around the net, and most say that they do not work

Th reset most people refer to apparently just fools the car into thinking you're absolutely gunning it, and readies itself for a right good thrashing, sharpening it's responses.

Just do a search for gearbox reset or ecu reset for details on how to do it.

A search on "throttle body reset":

1. Get in your car, it doesn't matter if you close the door or not.

2. Turn the key to the on (not start) position, the position just before the starter turns over.

3. Press the gas pedal to the floor with the key in the "on" position.

4. Hold the pedal to the floor for five seconds, then turn the key back to the "off" position (don't remove the key), then release the gas pedal.

5. Wait 2 mins for a full alignment.

6. Drive the car as you always do.

If you just roll your car round at low speed with not much input, your car will learn that how you drive, And may feel a little lazy.

When you do a reset, Its a clean slate.. do mine once a week.

I can confirm that it does appear to work. My C Class Coupe, (C200K Petrol), that I once had seemed to be a bit more responsive when I did the re-set.

If you then simply just poll around it eventually reverts to a lazy frame of mind, best if you drive it in a spirited fashion once re-set to keep it fresh.

Portzy.
