Goodwood Trackday 2012

Thank you Ricky for yesterday. It was my first time at Goodwood and what a fantastic track it is!

It was nice to catch up with the few people who I met last year when I came with JonMad (CLK55) at the AMG track day; also nice to meet the new faces.

I filled up the car prior to the event and then again at lunch time; a quick calculation shows that I managed 11.25mpg so not as bad as some of you. :)

have some vid.....

Paul you car is great; in your video at 1.30 you and Ricky flew past me like I was standing still. :D

A few to start..

Any pic of the Integra please?

Cheers,

Kin (Integra DC2)

only 4 AMGs, but we sounded the best .. apart from the McLaren.

AMGs rock!!!

I counted 5 - you, me, Ricky, Mika, & Simon. Unless I've missed anyone..

Cheers,

Gaz

Ricky cooking brakes again, don't believe it, can't be true.

@Ricky - is this the new bedding in procedure that was recommended to you, they're only a week old! It'll be onto a new set before you know it at this rate.

Nice to so many known AMG's :-), Mika, Ricky, Simon etc.

Hi guys, here's a further link to photos of the day courtesy of the chap accompanying Lucky P and Louise, at Goodwood yesterday and there's quite few of them!
I believe it was Stephane, correct me if I am wrong here.

What a great day out, weather was brillant, there was only 15 of us there, but my regular trackday pals there, a not well Simon M, Mika, Gaz1, lagerlout (Porsche), and the as ever very laid back C240 Sport 97, all with their AMGs. Great to see Lopes and Gary again mid morning with their emergency car 2, having suffered initial technical things with car 1 first thing, but arrived and straight into the usual 'charge' routine, always gets me. Also Isv in his lovely Audi R8 in the morning, Kin in his red Intergra R, very quick, Nick K in his Cayman, he seemed to be getting faster as the day wore on, then a couple of new faces to me, Ed and Steve in their amazingly quick Evo, and Steve in his JC works mini, seeing off a few cars, that on paper seemed was not possible.
Then we had Paul, (Wagon) with his sneaky lightweight Porsche, what a great car and guy, made me laugh most of the day, even when I was not feeling at my best, having been out with Maff in an unbelievable session early afternoon in his Mclaren, with Traction control off!, lamely had to go in early, not well, sorry to cut your session early Matt, but grateful he did not have video of my lame efforts as passenger as Lucky P did the previous year in his Porsche GT3, **a mental note, never be a passenger again. This bringing me finally the heavyweight cars, Lucky P and Louise both awesome drivers, and accompanied by Peter's friends Stephane and Ucchi yesterday, I hope they both enjoyed the sunny day out, Peter and louise are such good company and fun on these days. I liked to thank also Maff who altered his schedule to make the day, bringing his Mclaren, to which we we were all astounded how awesomely quick it was, and the noise!, I know a few of us got the privilege to ride pillion, and all as said with traction off mode, and getting off the gas at points for sound checks, it was something else.
All in all, I personally enjoyed this particular day, perhaps because I did not have the full on organising as previous year, but also the company and banter with you all was fantastic, a very relaxing , albeit tiried when I got home, and thoughly enjoyable day out, and i thank you all for coming along on the day, it was great, think I spent more time talking than driving only went out three times, and still managed to fry my front calipers to a golden colour, not far off Savman's new engine covers. I blame Paul (Wagon) and Lagerlout for this, had a great session out with Paul, he drove too fast, and Lagerlout was ballast in my passenger seat, probaly terrified by my appalling driving ability, and hence Iprobably pushed the brakes too much! (thats my excuse anyway)
It was all worth it, great day, thanks again all of you that attended, so enjoyed your company and your banter, and liked to think we will do it again sometime.

Will see some of you in November, look forward to it.
Stay in touch.

Regards
Ricky

Evening All
thanks to Ricky for organising another excellent trackday
it was great to meet up with both old friends and some new ones too
i really like the format at Goodwood - 5 on track - 10-12 minute sessions
some excellent photos have already been posted

the white porsche and also the black one (993?) looked fantastic
the TVR sounded very nice
the MaClaren and GT3 were ultra rapid
the Evos were Evil(!)
there were others too
and of course the AMGS - i made it 5 also

Ricky - thanks for the ride - that was very quick and tidy

I achieved an all time low of 6.3 mpg - probably chasing that GT3 for a lap and a half
i gave up after that as it was futile !

most enjoyable - good to see Simon operating portion control too - he even left some of his burger!

Cheers Ricky for organising it again. Wife is finally speaking to me, although is that a good thing?! :dk::rolleyes::D

I would have loved a video of my little rendezvous with the airfield but the video from Paul's car made up for that instead. You certainly can punt that big ole boat around Goodwood well and good Ricky, very quick.

Paul some great speed you're carrying through those corners. What engine is under that 911?

So you owned up then?

Ricky and myself were behind you and we just saw the red flags and a large smoke cloud and then very, very long pirouetting skid marks and finally you jumping out of the car - glad it all ended safely.

I would definitely have needed new undercrackers after that!

Hi Neil, glad your home im one piece mate, and am sure the wife is being very understanding, hopefully nothing a new handbag or several pairs of shoes won't fix anyway, hopefully. My driving ability got a little ragged near the end chasing Paul down, hope it was not too terrifying as a passenger, I personally would have been asking to get out by then!
I know you were hesitant in coming down due to 'spike' still be worked upon, it was good to see you, and I and the other guys appreciated your company yesterday, and we all live to trackday another time, I will see if that November date still has spaces, and send you the details of it, and you can decide if #spike' is well enough to attend.
It was good to see you again.
Not sure what that bandit has there Neil, just kept telling me it weighed nothing! you just can't trust people when it comes to bhp power!

Be in touch

Pics or it didn't happen!
Alx, no pics mate , but believe me, nearside is as golden as Savmans engine covers, (but gonna have to talk to olly about this), need bigga brakes! want to go, and can go faster, but need to stop!

Take a look at Paul's vid just after 2:29. Big skid marks going right into the infield. Wasn't a tank slapper, the rear stepped out after I went flat through Fordwater prob would have been last lap of the session. I caught it when she stepped left and went hard on the brakes but it was too big and way too fast and I went onto the grass and spun all the bloody way down to the brake sign at St. Marys until I reentered the tarmac and finally stopped the car. I'm guessing I was at about 110 ish there when I went off.

The guy wasn't joking about the wet grass!! No idea how far that was, but I had plenty of time to think f**k this is embarassing and bloody hell this spin is going on a long time... lol

I think I know what happened now. I was playing with lines at Fordwater after seeing some people taking it differently to how I've driven it there before at the Revival. That combined with some pretty knackered tyres caused it to step out on the downward off camber slope as I pushed her too far right rather than letter her fade left as I normally do. You can see that from the tyre marks. Ah well you live and learn.

Couldn't believe how bad the Boxsters brakes are though, they were fading very badly right from the start and under braking the rear was stepping out a fair bit too. Didn't expect that. Was a pity really as I was flying earlier. I wanted to go back out but the marshalls suggested I get it checked out underneath which of course was the best advice, safety first and all that.

Live to fight another day!

Sorry, for some reason I imagined this:

You can probably get the callipers repainted. I think it's the lacquer that turns yellow, not the actual paint. Or leave as is - a war wound of sorts? ;)

Dude you need some proper pads! Your discs and calipers are huge already. I use Performance Friction Carbon race pads in my Abarth and they are amazing. Try Pagid, or Ferodo, anything will be miles better for the track than the Merc pads.

I was hoping i would just rub it off this morning as I looked at it as I was going to work this morning, WRONG!, so wrong, looking like a refurb for the moment, more money! But yesterday was a fun day out with a great bunch of people, so I consider it all worthwhile.

hi mate , its a 3.2 running at just under 280bhp , have shed 200kilo's from the old girl so now 1140kilo's with 1/4tank , still got a fat git driving it though..
Make you right re Ricky hustling the Graf Spee around , proper commitment :thumb:, you can see when the alchemist moment turned his brakes to gold in the vid just before he let me past at the end ..
Re brake fade , changed the fluid in the Boxster? mine was hideous till some Motul600 and removal of the dust shields
