Hey Guys and Gals! This is my 1st post. I hope I can contribute something in the future in return. So here goes.
I have a 2001 CLK, W208, full function power seats on both sides. The seats when being moved forward are smooth as silk. However, when being moved backwards, it keeps on squeaking after mid way and to the end of their tracks. This is for both with and without someone sitting on them. The driver side is more pronounced.
I apply some heavy grease on the track and roll the seat back and forth to get the grease going. And to my surprise, the squeak turned into a scream!! It was even louder than before!
Initially I was thinking that the seats were either 1) running on dry track or 2) rubbing on to something as the seats do “vibrate very slightly” when being moved backwards.
Either way, I have tried to locate if it was the motor, the track, or anything else that is causing the noise, but all I can hear is that the noise is coming from underneath the seat somewhere around the lower left corner (I can feel it somewhat from my left behind).
The speed of the forward and backward motion (during and not during the sqeaking) are the same.
What really boggles my mind is that why would applying grease actually make the noise louder.
If anyone has any idea on the cause and fix for this, please do let me know.
Thanks.
