GTG in Wiltshire

Looks good to me 25 July should be ok my first year owning a mercedes and keen to get some friendly advice

Crockers

still a goer as far as i'm concerned, i'll post menu details shortly from the local pub and then let's see how many are interested.

Folks who have organised these things in the past any help/guidance would be appreciated as to a running order.

At a guess would a 11.30am start be sensible, chance to chat, view each others vehicles, we'll provide some drinks (non alcoholic and alcoholic) and then folks can move to the pub for lunch around 1pm. After lunch do you drive around on the roads across Salisbury plain (i'm guessing here) and then return to our place before heading off.

All suggestions welcome

Paul

I'd be very keen to join.

Wiltshire GTG Sunday 25th July 11.30am onwards

Finally i've got my act together on the suggested schedule for the day and am enclosing details on the food arrangements etc.

If the day starts around 11.30am with arrival at our place (details below) we have space for 30 cars so folks can do whatever you do at these things.

We will supply tea, coffee, soft drinks, apple juice, cider and wine as required

Lunch will be at The Churchill on the High Street in West Lavington it is 2 minutes by car from us and has a large car park and garden

Food will be a buffet as I thought this would be simpler (I may be wrong) we have 2 options so I need to know a; is it option 1 or 2 (I need to go with a majority verdict on this) and b; how many for lunch.

Details on food at the foot of this.

If you are looking to try out the performance of your vehicles from our place if you head south to the next village Tilshead (4 miles) you can head west towards Chitterne (4 miles) and then east towards Shrewton (6 miles) and then back north to Tilshead and Lavington. The roads are usually quiet and would allow you (legally of course :) ) to enjoy the open road.

We are 12 miles south of Avebury and 12 miles north of Stonehenge so if you need to go hug a rock that is also possible.

After that please feel free to use our place as a base to enjoy the rest of the day. I'm hoping to persuade a friend to bring along something mercedes powered that starts with a Z which if it comes off will be a giggle.

Please come back to me with any questions, let me know what obvious things i've missed. Now I must try and see if I can get the paintwork to shine on the old merc....this could take some time.

Hi Paul,

This sounds like an absolutely wonderful idea for a GTG and I would like to thank you for the very kind effort you've put into arranging this, it sounds great

But - I think you may have a problem with the proposed date. Unfortunately it's the same date as Jay's Midlands GTG takes place. I've just had a look at the threads and it does seem unfortunately that yours was suggested for the 25th first :o

I can only think that people must have not realised that this was happening on the same date as there's quite a long list of attendees to the other one:

Any scope for other dates if possible - it would undoubtedly secure a few more attendees?

Hope this helps,

Will

Oh burger, as Spike Milligan would have said "what are we going to do now, what are we going to do now...."

Suggestions welcome

Hi Paul,

Sorry to have been the bearer of bad news with the date - I only realised 10 minutes ago when reading your latest post that there was the other one on the same day.

I can only think of perhaps seeing if there's any chance of another date instead? I know it's a shame as it was arranged months ago but it might otherwise mean that you'd only get a couple of attendees. Pity we're into June already - maybe either slightly earlier this month or next, or maybe August/September time (?)

Again - I think it sounds like a lovely GTG idea and the location sounds fantastic - hope it can be saved by looking at any other possible dates :)

Sounds great and I'd definitely be coming if I could. I had also missed the clash of dates with Jay's GTG, but I'm going to be in Germany then anyway :(

I'd rather drive to Wiltshire than the Midlands but I would be happy to do a different date (apart from the 4th or the 11th, the latter being the inaugural London W124 GTG).

I'd be delighted to help with catering etc.

As a wine geek, I have been to hundreds of vineyards but never one in England, so it would be a delight to combine two of my passions. Any chance of some cricket, clay shooting and opera, and my joy would be complete!

25th July Wiltshire GTG Postponed

As we have a duplication with the Midland GTG and looking at Jay's collection of fab motors beats a field of vines and slurping alcohol by a mile we'll try and find another date. Sorry if that disappoints folks but I know some of you wanted to do both events.

I'll look at alternative dates and come back to you, thanks for the offer on catering too.

Can't help on cricket as the land slopes too much, we could do clay pidgeon shooting if you had the kit and I trained to sing so I could trot out a couple of ditties if that would help :) (folks might be ill at this point)
