Guess the repair costs quiz....

(as I started off without looking ahead for a spilt second) but then saw the Mondeo sat in front of me stopped!
Hit the brakes but the roundabout must have been greasy as I slid about 5 foot before hitting the mondeo. Max speed was about 5mph.

Hi Maff,
It highlights one of my earlier posts

"Roundabouts are where people meet to exchange names and addresses."

Thank goodness it wasn't a motorbike and no one was hurt.

Take care,
John

Christmas eh!

The only reason it happened was because of all the cars waiting to get into the car park due to xmas shopping! Tailed all the way back from the car park to end in front of me at the roundabout!

...don't feel too bad. Exact same sort of thing happened to me 2 years ago. The horrible bit is that because BAS is so effective the front end goes way down and you end up sliding under their rear bumper and your lights and bonnet get it. I think you will find that some of the frame bits underneath will need straightening out a bit.
At junctions, you have to check where the cars are coming from AND keep an eye on the car in front. My nemises was an old dear in a fiesta who managed to stop in the middle of a dual carriageway / single road / traffic lighted junction.
Rgds

Just claim it under MB Warranty mate (defective w/manship/quailty build...) ;)

I'd be gutted too. It was bad enough just having one of my alloys damaged by Stealer and that made me feel sick - but the second refurb recently carried out on same wheel is spot on :D . Repair job may possibly affect your 30YRS Paint Corrosion warranty as respray jobs by an MB authorised bodyshop are only covered under warranty for 3 years

Strange how the bonet creased even though it wasn't hit. Or is that how its designed?

Sorry to hear about that Matt, do you think you'll go through your insurance?

Yep, gone through insurance, knew I should have protected my 5 years No Claims!!
Went in for repair to MB yesterday, should get it back next week.
They gave me a 1.4 Corsa to put some dents in :) (Shame the Golf hasn't arrived yet)

I also opted for a £700 excess

The bonnet is designed to softly cushion pedestrians that might land on it, it then dusts them down and places them safely on the pavement again, sadly destroying itself in the process.

Unlike the ford focus where the top of the engine is about 1mm under the bonnet and right where the average-height human's head would land. Clever!

£700 excess ouch! number 2!
My excess is £1050. If it wasn't that high my insurance would be silly.

Which bodyshop u gone to MB directly in Brentford, or MB approved R&C or Auto/Body Technics who are both in Berkshire, if you don't mind me asking?

If possible def go for a new bumper (have a word with bodyshop) as insurance will folk out the cost and get a geometry check afterwards.

My insurance *was* a not too bad £1180 per year, but after this it's now going to be about ~£2000 per year.

Either way over time, it would have cost about the same to pay myself, or go via insurance route.

I chose the insurance route seeing as there was a third party involved, just incase there are any combacks.

I see a seperate thread on highest excess here too.

Crikey Shude! never thought anyones was that high or am i just out of touch on ever soaring insurance prices

...my excess is £1,200 and because I live in E14 (Tower Hamlets) its the only way to keep the premiums down - just renewed at £327 (5yrs no claims)

R&C are good - know someone who had a SL55 AMG (brand new) have some bodywork done on it and it was to a good standard. If ur Father knows them then def get a new bumper. R&C have also given u a good turn around time as normally bodyshops take minimum of couples of weeks for this sort of bodywork.

Personally, I would keep away from the Stealer for any other general work (R&C's master...).
