Had my 1st motorbike accident today

every person i know who has or had a bike has been hurt to some degree or another

I was lucky to only ever come off mine once - ironically at less than 20 mph !

Descending a hill on a country road that had been recently spread with loose chippings and a sharp right bend at bottom of hill - I saw hazard and slowed right down , but those chippings might as well have been sheet ice and the back wheel went out from under me , I just sort of stepped off the bike and let it go into the side of the road before picking myself up .

Although I had leather jacket and gloves , somehow gravel got inside my sleeve and did a good job of grazing my arm . Broke the right front indicator , right mirror and front brake lever .

Could've been a lot worse .

Thanks mate (Tonysmallz) :thumb:. Dont think I'll ever ride on the road again (Mrs has no doubts at all) Its what it does to the people around you that makes it worse (I've got 2 sons, a daughter and, of course, the wife) they were absolutely gutted and my missus is still seeing a psychotherapist. The bike bug never goes away tho and lately I've been considering a 98 R1 or nR6 as a track bike. Theres a "klick shift" electronic gearshifter that has an up and down button on the left bar which would overcome my "disadvantage". I reckon my weight loss might make me faster, what do you think? Just dont tell Mrs Fizzer ;)

yea id love to get a old r1 would be great to get a few benz guys for a track day in the future but as you say there is no logic in bikes and most id say 90% is becasue the car driver hadent checked propperly or not even looked over there shoulder to check blind spots ect. i think keeping it trackside is the best option these silyl hatchback drivers havent got a clue how to drive. theres no golfs or clios with prats front and back on a closed circuit.

Early 1980's - only for about 5 years .

...got taken out by a women in a Vulva estate.

I love the way you spell "Volvo". That is really funny. Wow! She must have been really stupid if she was driving a Volvo!! HaHa! You really made me laugh. I am so glad I logged in and read your post! It is what makes the internet so great, being able to mix with genius, sharp-witted comedians.:bannana:

No, Tony, sadly, I am no comedian. I flatter myself that I can write English reasonably well, that I am not a misogynist and that I am not a snob (Fords are fine cars) but I cannot claim to make people laugh...:(

You do, of course, realise that sarcasm is the lowest form of wit. I'm sure that you were only half joking. prprandall51. You shouldnt be so self depracating, you certainly amused me. ;)

pratdall51 fords are crap and you HAVE to be stupid.. you sure your not a comedian.. you made me laugh.. so what bike did you have????? or are you just posting because your a joker

In days gone by , I'd have agreed that Fords were cheap and cheerful , though even then there were a whole lot of worse cars .

Nowadays , however , Fords are actually very competent cars : much better in build quality , refinement , handling and reliability than in days of yore . I tend these days to only drive pretty new examples which are hire cars with fairly low mileages - but it does always impress me how much they've come on and , dare I whisper it , caught up with the 'prestige' makes in many ways .

....fords are crap....

I don't think that you can have driven many Fords to make such an erroneous generalisation.

Try any AVO built Mk 1 Escort and you'll be in one of the best driver's cars ever created.

Despite my Mexico being off the road I still love it - and my wife wouldn't drive anything else given the chance!

i coudlent put my woman in such a car becasue of saftey. and how small is was either way she would prefer a benz

Could never afford one when they were current (probably couldnt now) but gotta agree NormanC the Mk1 Mexico certainly would get a place in my fantasy garage. I had a mate in the 70's/80's who came from quite a well off family. He had a Mk1 RS2000, and later a MK2 we had a lot of fun bridge hopping and racing around the lanes in them (also in his dads Rolls Royce Shadow ).

i gotta be honest lads this is before my time. i grw up thinking i wanted a c36. lol

TBH he was a bit older than I was (I'd have been about 16 he was 18) his dad owned a local garage. We spent as much time in the garage fixing the things as driving them. All good fun though.
Anyway whats all this about growing up? Thats something everyone else did whilst I was out enjoying myself :bannana::bannana:. I'm 46 going on 16

Glad you are relatively unscathed Simon. I recently took my CBT , after being on four wheels for the last 40 years . I need to take my theory , and DAC ,and have to say that riding around on a 125 these days is not quite the same as popping around on Lambrettas , Vespas , and the odd 250cc bike back in the 60s. In those days i was quite used to bouncing/rolling around but
these days dont bounce so well! There is far more/faster traffic around today , and probably more potholes ! I have an old Honda 400 Superdream that i need to fix up for when i pass my test , but it definitely wont be ridden in the wet . I have a leather jacket & trousers with added protection pads ,good gloves , full face helmet and hi -viz vest . Just added boots, on the advice of my CBT instructor , who said ankles were very prone on low speed spills. I live near a dual carriageway and am constantly amazed at the speed some bikers travel at , particularly on roundabouts . One drop of spilt diesel on a roundabout/ bend will soon have you off a bike. Take care !
:)Martin
