The other cars were stranded with the slow-fast motions of LH. He was obviously purging water from the brakes but it was dangerous. He "fooled" the other drivers who had less room than he did and they obviously wanted to go fast when he did, but had no place to go when they needed to brake suddenly.

I thought that Hamiltons antics were Schutwat like. Win at all costs???

There's a whole world of difference between running slow and wide on a corner behind the SC and full out clobbering somebody as MS did twice early on in his career. Or undertaking parking manouevres in qualifying.

So far I'd put down the new boy's antics as grating but he hasn't yet refined the negative aspects of his racecraft down to the same level as world champions MS, AS, and FA.

I was reading some comments on the BBC website about Hamilton and he really is begining to annoy people. They were really having a go about him.
I must admit his silly pathetic weekly comments about Alonso are really staring to annoy me but you still can't take the fact away that he is about to become world champion in his first year.
He just needs to grow up a bit.

But the Alonso has not shown much maturity either. A lot of his comments and conduct during this season have been unbecoming of a world champion. Mansell used to whinge a lot too. Schumacher was hardly a statesman. It's all part of the game. The fact remains that Hamilton has driven with great maturity, consistency, and panache, which is all that really matters to me as a punter.

Precisely what is the reason why LH needs to pander to the press or anyone else. He is the best thing to happen to F1 in years. He pulls crowds, he makes girls interested in F1 and he drives like a nail-gun.

The press, made up of can't drive keyboard monkeys, offer no insights into the stress of having to deal with a self serving ****er like Alonso.

All this diplomacy just adds to the false impression .....

If LH wins in China I want him to moon the entire pit lane on his parade lap.

There isnt too much room in an F1 cars cockpit to drive and moon:D

But did you like MS?

Why couldn't LH become a MS without the negative aspects, it first looked like he would...

It will be so nice to have a BRITISH world champion. Who cares what others think, if he becomes world champion just be proud for him.

Agree...

What is it with people in England always putting winners down???

What do some of you want, let his driving do the talking and give the lad some respect!! Last weekend was an awsome drive.

step down from my soap box.

Totally disagree,
This is not criticising this man's driving ability, it is all about role models and standards of behaviour.

As usual we tend to blame everyone else and accept no responsibility for our own actions, don't we learn anything from the mistakes of allowing our talented, gifted sports folks to go off the rails. This young man can easily go the way of George Best, Paul Gascoigne, or Lee Sharpe especially if the British fans condone his tantrums.

Should this thread be merged with the current F1 topic where there are some very knowledgeable folks giving some excellent input on this very issue.

I don't think there have been many top F1 drivers over the years who haven't had a bit of attitude. Somehow, I think it goes with the job, and it might even be essential to become world champion.

I look at Lewis Hamilton and yes, he has attitude. But so did Jim Clark, Jackie Stewart, Graham Hill, Nigel Mansell and Damon Hill. All British world champions, all had attitude. Even Stirling Moss was difficult at times. Some of these guys became elder statesmen of F1 and showed that they also had charm. But when they were driving, they had attitude.

Look at Senna and Shumacher, the two drivers in recent years who were said to be among the best ever Grand Prix drivers. Did they have attitude? You bet they did!

I don't think there is anything different, or wrong, about Hamilton's attitude. He has more than a little of the Ron Dennis about him - it isn't about whether people like you or not, it is about the ruthless professionalism that is needed to survive at the top. And Hamilton has it in good measure.

When I watch Hamilton drive I see a driver whose car is always just on the edge of stability, but who drives incredibly smoothly and makes it all look very easy. His driving style is that of a Jim Clark, an Ayrton Senna, a Michael Shumacher. I can think of no higher praise.

Hamilton is a truly remarkable young man, and the frightening thing is, he will just get better and better. He is on the edge of a thoroughly well-deserved championship in his first season in F1. It certainly won't be his last.

Not only the best British driver for many years, he is going to be one of the greatest F1 drivers of all time. Instead of criticising his attitude, we should be truly and deeply proud of him.

L.H. should grow up?.....I ask you!

The guy is 22 years old and on the verge of winning the F1 Championship in his rookie year against a 2 time reigning world champion in the same car..

Get a grip, I see people of the same age getting p***ed every weekend, throwing up and barely able to function as human beings - and I work at a University.

The points table and viewing ratings speak for themselves - he is a good deal younger than me and I feel humbled by his achievements & attitude.

Absolute cobblers,
I will only cite Jim Clark but none of the others would throw public tantrums. Laugh, practical jokes yes, but publicly incite, or wind up their team-mate...... never. Your wrong. Jim Clark was a very quiet Scotsman that shied away from the media and VERY seldom gave an interview, but he always had the greatest of respect for his fellow racers, and especially his team-mate. Jackie Stewart was not the most jovial of drivers but again he had tremendous respect for his fellow competitors and it is largely due to the efforts of this driver that cars became safer and deaths less frequent. It was these deaths that saw the early retirement of this gentleman. Your 95% wrong :) (Mansell was a whinger :)) . Maybe 80% because another great character; James Hunt once punched a marshal, but none of these people would swear at their team boss, ridicule their team-mate and threaten to leave Formula 1......... Unless you know different????? :o :)

I am NOT anti Hamilton and it may well be a generation, lack of discipline or self respect issue, but it is wrong to slag off fellow competitors, it is wrong to say if I can't get my way then I'm off. He is 22 years old. He is a man, not a child and to put this in perspective look at Prince Naseem. He had the World at his finger tips, but he knew best. He thought he could do what he wanted, say what he wanted, and act how he wanted. You and others appear to say that's okay? Sorry but I disagree, these sportsmen are paid unbelievable sums to PERFORM, are they value for money and what do they offer? They are an ambassador for their respective sport and a role model to which others want to emulate.

What we accept as normal behaviour from our top athletes is what we will see from a younger generation. If we stand back, draw a deep breath and try to be neutral, you will see Ron Dennis trying to reign in this brilliant young talent. For the first three quarters of the season the press was not allowed to speak to Hamilton when he was on the start grid. The race after this man decided it was acceptable to tell the CEO of McLaren to F*** off, that all altered and now Hamilton gives these interviews.

We need someone like Hamilton, he is a breath of fresh air to this corrupt sport, but he is not bigger than the sport and the bottom line is that this young man is an ambassador not only for Formula 1, but to a new young generation that all believe they can be the next Lewis Hamilton.
