Has anyone had any experience of detailing courses for the amateur who wants to learn some of the techniques to use on their own vehicles?

I don't know much but I do know that I don't want a course where I would be one of a dozen pupils, for example. I would enjoy practical over observation and classroom.

Any recommendations would be gratefully received………I don't mind travelling and wouldn't mind staying in a hotel if say a 2/3/4/5 day course was possible and it was the 'right' course at the right price for me.

Thank you.
I saw that company advertised but there is nothing like a recommendation.
It does seem to be orientated towards the career minded but that is no bad thing I suppose.

If you are on Detailing World Forum have you put a shout out? Lots of very helpful people on there who often seem to help in these situations or to point in the right direction.

I'm stupidly just going to dive in and have a go at machine polishing, what's the worst that can happen after watching Junkman videos?!

;-)

Hi there,

I hold training courses for companies as well as one to one. When the new GAD website goes live this will be apparent. I'm the official uk trainer for rupes Qatar and LFD Qatar. I've trained dealership staff for Aston Martin, jaguar and soon to be Lamborghini. I train basic washing to paint correction, wet sanding to marine and aviation. I also train in cquartz and crystal lacquer officially for Gtechniq and have all state of the art equipment from flex and rupes at my disposal. All official pricing will be on my new website which launches beginning of April along with marine and aviation detailing. But if it's something your interested now, contact me at:

[email protected]

Cheers

Get yourself onto detailing world there is a meet coming up soon in Bury St Edmund's. Just waiting for dates to be confirmed but it will be a Sunday you will pick up loads of info there

I can highly recommend Michael of GemClean.

Thanks for the good ideas.
I have tried and failed to work my way through whats what and very quickly realised I simply don't have the bottle to just try things where there is even a remote chance of causing harm.
Like all things specialised, this field has its own language and experts so although I was happy to dive in, I now realise that theory is miles away from practical.

With this in mind, I will drop Michael at Gemclean a line with a view to plundering his vault of knowledge in due course.

Once again, many thanks to all for the welcome advice.

I'm still building myself up to using my DA so I get where you are coming from!

I would undoubtedly have been better spending my money to date getting tuition rather than chasing more and more products but there you go :-)

Fact that you are taking the time to look into and learn about all this is probably going to be the most important step :-)

You are by far braver than I. Looked at DA's, watched loads of vids, bottled it.
What could possibly go wrong? Lots! And I would berating myself forever.
So, discretion being the better part of valour…………good luck to you though and let us know how it goes.

Yeah, what could possibly go wrong?

To be fair I am tempted to buy a knackered panel from scrap yard and have a little practice. Could be a few quid well spent.

I will aim to bore people with a thread when I finally get round to putting my plans into action, if not least for my benefit to make me try and remember all the steps!

Guys

have a watch of the Junkmans videos on Youtube and watch then at least twice, merc paint is hard so providing you keep the machine moving and are careful and take your time you will not go through the paint.

A scrap panel is probably the best way to start and practice practice practice in order to perfect your work pattern.

I use a rotary and taught myself in about 10 hours work but had spent around 6-8 hours watching videos on youtube. its not that scary just a case of getting stuck in.

I have now done Merc, VAG, BMW and single stage Saab paint all with great results

As it turns out, you are braver than me as well!!!
I did think about borrowing or buying some panels to work on but for me I would rather someone show me the right way and explain the wrong ways rather than me do all the wrong ways to find the right way.
If I did the latter, I would still bottle it when it came to doing our vehicles.
But you can rest easy because psychotic isn't contagious over forum posts.

Hi Matt

Perhaps offer a mini group buy course for limited number of people per training day , you may get a group of up for that!

Hi,

This is great idea and something that will be on offer. But unfortunately work is very busy with dealership training as well as aviation and marine detailing and crystal lacquer applications. As most book 2-3 months in advance training would also need to be within the same territory. So once my new website and HD company advertisement is finished, I'll be be able to organise this with the guys interested in a group session.

Cheers

MICHAEL! ;)
