As an SLK driver I try to drive with the roof down whenever possible so long as its not raining! So I am an active member of the HCHDC  Anyone else out there as mad as me?

I would be - if only my roof went down!!

I had an MR2 with removable glass moonroof. It was a pain to remove an stow beneath the front hood, but it came out for anything more than a few minute drive.

Hello,

With my MX5, Z3 and 330 convertible I used to have the roof down almost what ever the weather. With the MX5 I cracked the plastic window in winter as it was too cold to drop it...

With the Z3 I had two new rear windows under warranty as they marked where it folded.

In the BM I manged to have a little fish tank (minus the fish) in the two rear seats as I got caught in a downpoor roof down.

No point having it if the roof isn't down. Miss it now we have two tin tops :(

Went to a good friends wedding in the MR2. Seventy mile-ish trip. Nice day. Roof out.

M5 to Gloucester. Became overcast. Then dull. Started to rain. No problem at cruising speed. Dry as a bone.

Traffic slowed. Some rain in car.

Traffic crawling. Rain heavier. Lots of rain in car.

Had to wait until next junction to replace roof. Two-person job with wet hands. Mrs D in best clothes. Not happy.

:D :D

I enjoy driving with the top down late in the year, but not so much early in the year, having the top up is a nice change from most of the summer when its down all the time,

Sadly my R129 doesn't have heated seats let alone modern luxuries like airscarf, so in winter the hard top is usually on.

If its not raining and

over 10 c
or
Sunny at any temp

then the roof is down!

We complain about the weather in this country but Ive had convertables for 40 years and the roof is down 90% of the time! (No... not 36 years Numbers!)
It goes to show that the weather isnt that bad.

PS the quickest roof up/down was my Alfa Spider ...manual one hand instant...but please dont go there!!!

:) :)

Quickest for me was the MX5, two catches and throw back.

Grap the handle at the lights if it were raining and pull back up.

The 330 took what seemed like an age and had an embarising few times stuck at lights with foot brake on waiting for it to do its stuff...

I do miss the roof down driving..

Yep when I had the A4 Cabriolet, weather over 10c, no rain = roof down, climate up a couple of notches - happy days

Side windows up if driving a bit more briskly, wasn't so much of a problem as I spent so much time stuck in traffic :(

Will

The 230 is the best convertible that I have ever been in,,you hardly need heated seats, and an air scarf is not needed

Open boot, put on stay, get two halves of roof frame out, put one side in, walk round to other side of car, put that half in and attempt to align the 3 sticks of both halves (first one inevitably comes out as you pop the third one in), open out. Back to boot get vinyl, fix and rear panel and at rear of doors, both sides, do poppers, close boot, get back in car, do catches at screen.

Preferably keep moving and do this under the nearest petrol station canopy.

Although it was a faf I was quite quick at it, but it did mean I'd leave the roof down alot when parked. One summer I managed a whole month, parking a mile from the office (and garage at home) without putting the roof up at all. Just a keen check on the weather forecast each morning.

Tip for those with R230...if its a bit drafty just put the roolover bar up while driving and it cuts out the draft. If you have the optional draft excluder net then that comes up with it and then you can easely reachback and complete the operation; then press the button and drop the rollover bar back down.....at almost any speed!:bannana:

I never put my rear net down,,, if it is lowered then it hides the rear parking display

I just listen for the scream (from either the sensors or my passenger )...anyway you're putting me to shame as my neck isnt as flexible as yours is if you bother to turn around to look at the display!!
And i do believe you may be my Senior!?

You can see it in the rear view mirror

Hardcore!....Pah

Whats so hardcore about roof down in the winter, at least you can wear warm clothes.

You wanna try FRNAC (fixed roof no aircon club) in the summer in an old car with black leather....now thats hardcore!!!!

Ahhh......the summer of 05, never to be repeated
