Hi All,

Quick question - what does the beam pattern from MB cars (say W209 or similar) look like?

I am used to the lazy 'z' look of other cars but my W209 is somewhat different.

It looks flat except for pointy peaks presumably where the bulbs are covered...

Any clues?

Is is an issue I need to take up when the car goes in for service?

Depends on if they are halogen or xenons

Xenons are very flat along the left and right edges with, as you say, a couple of slight peaks in the very flat well defined front.

It's one of the things I remarked on when I first drove with xenons, how sharp the beam pattern edges were

Thanks for stepping in :)

Now, I am pretty sure my car has Halogen lights as the lamp units have no projector type eyeball.

But.....

The light pattern from my headlights is the way you describe!

I was wondering whether my headlight level setting was off...

Take it into local quick fit, and ask them nicely to check your headlight level setting. They did mine for free, and while i was there i had just had my Kleemann header and cat installed so they did a co2 check for me foc. I was so pleased with the guy's customer service approach i handed him a fiver.

Cheers Tudu,

Do you think that there is something amiss?

You might still have xenons mine isnt projector lamp but is equipped with xenons.
Remove the lamp back and look at the bulb 2 or 3 small wires means normal bulb, one big fat cable equals xenons.

Hi Lynall,

Wow, I didn't think that Xenon's worked without a projector to focus the beam :-)

Gonna look at that later!
