Headlight bulbs - Can I improve visability

Guys be careful where you buy your Osram/Philips bulbs.

A *LOT* of them are fake. And that probably accounts for a long of negative reviews on the quality.

Yes that could be true as the Philips Extreme 100% I had in my 986 Boxster were an excellent upgrade - night and day difference if you'll pardon the pun.

I'm the opposite, I gave up with both Philips & Osrams uprated bulbs as they only lasted 6 months to a year before every one eventually gave up.

Currently running the original bulbs that the car left the factory with, 8 years old and still going strong.

Russ

I was equally frustrated with my short-lived Osrams NightBreakers.

However....

NightBreaker - P/N xxxxxNBR - original bulb, did not last long

NightBreaker Plus - P/N xxxxxNBP - newer bulb, longer lasting

NightBreaker Unlimited - P/N xxxxxNBU - newest bulb, longer lasting and more light

I am now using NightBreaker Unlimited, and so far so good.

Higher output lamps as an average go pop quicker, it's the law of physics.

Correct, and I would be happy with a good compromise - a bright bulb that needs to be replaced every couple of years would be fine for me. Hopefully my new NightBreakers Unlimited will prove to be just that.

This might be a bit out of date reply but I was in the same position a few months ago as I also when thru the whole motion of which is best.I must have 8 sets of bulbs in my shed.I did all the research and opinions of loads of people.I tried OSRAM Nightbreakers to PHILIPS Extreme and loads of suggested brands. They were all very disappointing and similar.I fitted the RING 120+ to my wife's 2003 Clio a year ago and the light seemed so much better than my 2006 c class. So I decided to try the same in my car and after spending a fortune on bulbs as they all average between £15 - £20 per set,the RING bulbs are far better than any of the others I have tried.Give them a try next time as I will only use the RING in the future.

I started it and it's still relevant so thanks.

The summer nights have meant I still have to do something.

You are not on your own. I reckon I've tried just about all the popular upgraded H/lamps bulbs going including NightBreakers, different cars too including three different Mercs, a Honda & a BMW, thus I came to the conclusion it's nothing got to do with the h/lamp design. Admittedly most were a good to vast improvement but the life span life was crap putting it bluntly, anywhere from three to six months. I just gave up in the end.

I have had Philips Extreme bulbs for years and have never had a single one go pop so I cant say its my experience of them.

Wish I had your experience. Any car I fitted them to (yep, including using Extremes) covered 20k+ miles p.a., head lights on permanently also too some of the roads used regularly were far from smooth. Maybe that partially accounts for the different life spans? Whatever, I've had no issues with standard h/lamp bulbs @ £4 ea, anything from 12-24 months I reckon.
