Help find me a W140 600

yep the early ones did have awesome presence..

trust me.. go for the 500!

thanks.. i have heard the same opinion before.. so i might redirect my focus to the 500s, or even 400s.. just want a clean original example, not worried about mileage, as i will be using this for my shuttling up to wolverhampton and bham on my work routes..

though i came across a decent 300sd in the states.. hence i was looking at imports on the diesel w140...

yes presence and timeless class.. thats what i love about the 90 shaped cars and beyond.. nothing radical, nothing OTT.. true Rolex like timepieces of engineering with all the creature comforts you can imagine..

the new shape s class is great, but in 10 years, there will be nothing charming about them.. the design cues were too striking, thus bland cars in my opinion age the best, and actually have just the vibe of class..

eg.. new bentley Azure is so gangster like, in my opinion, that id only ever consider the previous Azure that they stopped doing a few years back..

and what i dont want is anything like this loll

As Jay says. The 500 and 600 are fantastic but the 6 has extreme running costs when the go wrong. They have two sensors for everything.

the one i am liking at the mo is

1993 MERCEDES-BENZ SE CLASS 500 SE

but not sure.. plus im liking the LWB SELs more so..

but this is clean and a decent car.. i think... seems to have had repainted panels to the front wings.. possible rust??

I would stick with the 600 personally. Yes there are more things to go wrong, but the engine is virtually bulletproof and they come with fantastic spec.
Added to which, they are far more exclusive, the 320's and 500's are 'ordinary S classes'.
Whenever I park mine at a Mercedes meet people always want to see, and discuss the car especially the engine. Also go for the LWB, it is a big car anyway so a few extra inches will make no difference to the driving experience, however the rear legroom is supurb.
Mine does 21-24mpg on a run, what they are built for, the power and quietness are simply the best around. 600's will also become the one to own, the classic W140 in years to come.

The 600 engines are bullet proof but they do have issues. I have just done a set of headgaskets on one. Believe me, you don't want to know the cost of that.

Thanks for the link to my S500 LWB that I am selling.

Between a 500 and a 600, you will get the nappa leather and the V12 but other than that, the features are the same (especially if you have a LWB).

Both top out at 155mph (to be precise...252kph according to the GPS which is a true speed and there was still more to come).

0-60mph, you lose about half a second but no faster way to destroy a gearbox than drag racing a 2.2 ton car (2.4 from memory for the V12).

Same interior; same double glazing; same looks.

The downside of the V12's is that when they do go wrong, the costs are crippling.

Long live the W140's!

I have just returned from a trip to Devon and Cornwall in my S600, it never missed a beat, and the mileage just clocked over120k. It returned believe it or not, 24 mpg on mainly motorway and fast A roads to Plymouth covering over 800 miles over the four days.

It is a fantastic ride, although I must say that I have not had any Major expenditure on the car yet.
The trip has certainly made me think that these cars have probably been bettered in fuel economy only, since 1998, .........certainly not in quality of build.
When I bought the car last November I thought I would just 'smoke it' for a few months and sell it on, but after the MB enthusiast article in June, and the interest from fellow Mercedes Owners I shall probably keep it for a bit.....
