Help needed, Just had an accident...

What figures do they use when writing the car off? , Trade, retail??

It might actually work the other way for you; my friends 02 plate S320 CDi with 110k on was written off and he was paid out £7800, which is about £2,500 more than it was worth.

I am hearing more and more about insurance companies paying out more than a cars worth just lately, so you might get lucky and cop for £22k like Jaymanek reckons its worth retail.

But, if you like your car, and want it to go again, you should be able to get it repaired.

You need to talk to the assessor, and work through some options, including getting it away from Brentford and to a bodyshop with more realistic pricing.

How badly damaged is it, from your initial post it sounds like you drove it home?

I did dirive it home but with lots of noise from the passenger front end and just about all the warning lights on in the car...

Just quoting the glass's book price... I wouldnt retail that car for anywhere near 22K but its in black and white and the guide that most in the trade use.

Be a shame to lose it though , it's low mileage and sounds a nice car.

Agree with Nick , speak to assessor , negotiate , and get a contract repair at a good bodyshop.

Unless you fancy a change.

Even valuing it at top book ,it's going to be borderline whether it gets written off.

It is a nice car, spent months looking for the car and it has never given me any problems. But as I said, I worry about what it would be like after repairs.

The reason I wanted it to go to mercedes is because of the roof mechanism and the electrics that all went faulty after the crash...

I really like my car and also I worry what it would be like after repairs...

A good bodyshop will return it to its former glory and you'll never know it's been repaired.

Talk to Andy:

Andys auto barn a personal & polite service repairing bodywork for a variety of top marque motorcars.

He used to work at Brentford and knows MBs inside out.

He should be able to provide a much better quote that won't see your car getting written off, and his work is flawless.

(he repaired my car after a bump in January, and it's a perfect job.)

CAP has it at £13,500ish.

There's a 2006 SL 350 with half the OP's mileage at 34,000 miles for sale by a dealer on Autotrader for only £19,950.

Sorry I am kinda not in a right frame of mind right now, What do you mean borderline?

Generally write off point is 60% of cars value.

If it's a ten grand bill , and the car is worth 18/19 ish ...

Its getting on for the 60% figure.

I can also vouch for Andys work , he did our little purple A class and it is perfect , and Will has had his 190 2.3-16 done there and was very pleased with it.

It is I guess, the SL was and still is my dream car, took a good few years b4 I could afford one and then this mess...

Have to agree that Andy does a great job.

I waited 2/3 years before letting anyone work on my 2.5-16 as I was paranoid about spoiling such an original car, his work was spot on.

Had some TLC on the CLK55 done there when I first bought it and it's still looking great over two years later

I know where to go if/when I need any bodywork these days for a nice car :)

Will

Thanks for every one who contributed, the estimate has noe gone to my insurers, will update on the going ons (?)...
