i need help. i have a 1998 clk 230 kompressor 130k miles, that has developed a very bad misfire over 4000 rpm it also goes into limp mode when driven hard(no kompressor.
have tried coil packs, plugs, new fuel filter, maff.
i have just unpluged the crank sensor and that cuts engine as per norm,
however have disconected ther cam position sensor and this made no differance to the engine or my problem.

my question is when you disconect the cam sensor should it make a differance to the engine when running or is this my problem it is also leaking oil around it.
any help appreciated.needed

Did you replace the rubber boots under the coil packs? Mine were corroded causing it to misfire.

i do not have any rubber boots under coil packs. what do they look like?

oh yeh ,sorry i sound like a **** but yes they also was replaced.
i am now at a loss with this.

What make maf did you put on?

Does the miss happen when the car is revved stationary at 4000RPM?

Have you had it on a Star?

bosh maf .
yes the misfire happens when when reved stationaty.
tes i wes wandering if this is the rev limeter as cuts in at lower revs when stationary, but not realy sure.
but the engine when driving over 4000 ish revs i get m misfire pop and then engine into limp mode(loose kompressor) i was convinced this was a maf problem but alas not, i have heard the valve on top of fuel rail can somtimes cause a problem but not sure what to do with it.
i aint had it on star yet but am trying to find somone with one so as can plug in, if you know anyone in gloucestershire then let me know.
regards wez.

When stationary the rev limit is normal.

you need to plug it inta a Star now.

yes i know it's doing my head in lot spent and now found out rear tracking out 2 tyres killed.
thanks for yor reply

I have a similar problem with my 2000 320CLK when it revs over 4000 ish and shuts down to safe mode. I have changed all plugs, leads and fitted a Bosch MAF but no difference to date!
I have been advised that my Cats could be damaged now so the excessive back pressure is causing the car to go into protection mode.
The fault goes as soon as the car is stopped/restarted which is very frustrating hence why I have joined this group.
Hope you have sorted your problem now?
