Hi All

My 2006 CLS comand sat nav has lost its position. It is running V9 disks.

The system worked fine until 2 days ago.

The car thinks it is about 50 miles north west of where it actually is. The car then tracks me across fields and seems to think it knows where I am but its wrong. Since it is able to change my position I am presuming that this is a software/sytem fault rather than the ariel?

I have read that there is a system reset - 3,5,7 but when I tried this all I got was a model selector (btw - this allowed me to change the model to the AMG version and then the start up picture changed from the mercedes star to the amg logo - cool)

Does anybody know if there is a way to simply reset the system to force it to look for the co-ordinates?

Thanks in advance,

Andy

Thanks - I thought Alfie would be the guy to ask but felt it would be a little cheeky to direct my question straight at him.

After doing a bit of searching I found an earlier thread. I checked and am showing no satellites found.

How much should I be looking for a dealer fit replacement ariel or are there other easier and cheaper options?

Andy

Have you tried putting the model selector back to the appropriate model ?

Sounds like an antenna issue. How many satellites does it show at the status display?

You can replace the antenna yourself with either a genuine or aftermarket one. You can connect it direct to the back of the navigation processor in the boot.

Hi

I only went into the model selector options because this is what came up when i tried a suggested 5,3,7 reset because it wasn't working in the first place and only changed from W211 EU to AMG W211. I have just changed it back but it makes no difference to the zero satelittes found status.

Dont think that is the sequence for the unit in your car. Zero satellties indicates it being a gps fault anyway.

Same happened in my SL. Just lost its way and received no satellites. I suspect an aeriel malfunction and suggestions from my recent posting suggested the same. Mercedes are looking at it and I'm awaiting their verdict. Will post after the car comes back whatever they say.

Sat Nav Problem Solved!

Hi

Thanks for the feedback.

I've fixed the problem, so i thought I'd update the board to let you know what I did......

I trawled the inter-web thingy looking for a solution........

I read the comand aps manual for the first time (331 pages just in english)........

Then I remembered that when i installed the latest maps the system performed a reset, so I did the reverse. I put the old map disk in (V5), the system installed and reset itself and lo and behold the satellites all came flooding back.

I then put V9 back in, the system reset again, and all is right in the world once more.:bannana:

Thanks for reporting the resolution. There should have been easier ways to reset the Comand and the navi processor but it does not matter if you got it done this way.

But it does sound odd if it was first indicating zero satellites and only a reset made it find a fix.

Hi Diesel

I agree, there SHOULD have been an easier way to reset the comand system, but I'm buggered if I could find out how. :wallbash:

I did consider pulling the fuse but I didn't want to upset any other aspect of the comand system - esp. since I didn't know if it was an ariel problem or a software problem.

If you know how to reset the comand system I would be very interested for any future problems.

Cheers

Andy

Good thing you got it working again.

It happened to any sat nav especially if there are new road layouts with out of data information. At Haughley on A14, A90 bypass to Edinburgh airport and at Worksop on A1, you can see your car located in the middle of a field instead of on the road.

Eventually all sat navs are not going to work in a particular year(2012?) I cant remember when all the sat nav satellites go out of date.

My understanding is that an E-class as well as the CLS class Comand would have a settings menu where a full reset can be initialised.

The navi processor probably cannot be reset otherwise than taking the fuse off (assuming Star is not available). It should be safe to reset both the Comand unit as well as the Navi processor from the fuse.

Sat Nav problem on E Class

My E class sat nav thinks I’m in the North Sea instead of Kent. Mercedes dealer has checked it today and say I need a new antenna and a new wiring harness for the antenna costing £100 in total for both + £250 labour charge.
They said there’s corrosion on the connector of the wiring harness which is inside the boot. Can anyone please tell me where to locate this as I’d like to check the problem myself? There’s no satellite signal showing at the bottom right hand side of the sat nav display.
The car is less than 5 years old and the dealership suggest this isn’t an uncommon problem. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi all, hope someone can help. I too have the same problem as the guys above, have a 5yr old E-Class, a with a sat nav problem. It is showing an incorrect location by 50 miles or so (live in kent but it is showing up in Brighton!) I have tried the 5,3,7 reset but that goes to a model selector page. I have tried putting in the old version of the sat nav, which has re-loaded and but stilll have the same problem.

There are no satellites showing - how do i check this?

I had the car checked out by local MB and they were unsure of the problem but wanted to change the antenna as the first thing (more out of hope than logic i felt).

Any thoughts???

Thanks
