Thanks

Hi Chris

Car looks cool , why the 2.3 8V ? even turbo'ed you wont get much more than 200 bhp out of it and have it stay reliable .... why not go for a 230 Kompressor engine or a 2.3 16V from the 190 series ?

Or go the whole hog and get a 3.2 ;) and twin turbo it ...

Welcome on board ....

Hi and welcome! Loving the wheels...bodywork in good condition.....ahem...someone as painted your lights black though...swines aren't they? :o ;)

Hi Chris, nice car lookin motor...I do love the 190 ...a classic. The 2.3 engine is awesome and I would agree with Howard. I have had the pleasure of driving two...one was an auto the other a manual....strange, but the auto seemed faster ! ...:D

i was thinking of dropping in a larger motor but that meant changing the gear box, diff etc etc , and the amount that would cost would be worth buying a 190e cossy + the amount ive spent on my car so far (full leather interior + audio install, exterior mods etc) and considering its my first car i wanted to keep it ^^ .. and the insurance is cheaper after turboing than a cossy lol :P

+ anything over 210 BHP, its just gonna spin, so will be nice to have some controllable power at the wheel ^^ wasnt looking for anything amazingly fast, just want a nice solid modified car, something different to all the corsas and saxos out there :P

plus i already bought the 8v mossleman turbo kit , brand new never been used a few months back, and figured i should throw the biggest engine in there thats compatible ^^ instead of wasting it on the 1.8 :P

+ will be something different, will be nice to keep up with the cossys lol

so if you know anyone who wants to get rid of an 230e cheap let us know :D

Hi and Welcome...:)

Can't help you with the engine but I just wanted to say I like your car. It looks like the same colour as mine too :D

Oh and like you, I've looked round for some replacement rear lights but I don't think those blacked out one's do it any favours.

Hello and welcome to the forum from me. I do like the car and the descrete modding you have done what with the colour coding of handles and wing mirrors. The rims also suit it well 18'' same as Ginas if i aint wrong. As for those rear light clusters you should have only blacked out the part of the orange indicator bit really in my opinion. Any chance for some pics and interior also maybe ?

Hi and welcome to the forum.

You cannot post in the Classifieds section until you have a post count of 30.
This was put in place to stop people from joining with the only intention being to sell something.
Normally, for sale or wanted items posted in other sections, from members with a post count of under 30, would be removed.
Your request for an engine to modify your car, seems acceptable to me, so I see no harm in letting it stay.

Nice motor by the way. ;)

I have a 2.3 engine and box.

PM if interested.

CrysAk - We'll leave this thread here as a sort of welcome thread so that people can discuss.

However, can you please post a more concise requirement of the engine(s) you require in our new Wanted section?

hey guys thanks for the warm welcome and comments on the car :) also thanks for moving it to the wanted section :) much appreciated ^^

as for the rear lights, i got them as the cars pretty much just grey/black minus the wheels and the red/ orange rears really stood out as it was the only colour on the car lol, i personally like them, they arnt too in your face imo, but i understand why some people dont ^^

i was going to fit a WALD kit, but decided against it as i have two huge speed bumps to go over to get into my work car park lol,

next mods (minus the engine) will be shocks and ARBs

as for the itnerior shot, this is all i can find ont eh net at the moment, deleted the better shots :( [ignore the door pods, they are soon to be reskinned :P)

thanks ^^

w124's

Since there were never any RHD W201 2.3's sold in the UK then your best source would be W124's up to 1992 ish I guess. You will want the post 1989'ish twin duplex timing chain engine for longevity also, but you probably know this already.:o Make sure you get the EZL ignition unit with the engine since they are getting rarer by the minute also. Other than that cylinder head gaskets are a known problem on these motors [usually no 4 cylinder at the back] so keep an eye out for that as well. Good luck with your search and welcome to the forum

thanks for that, believe me i need all the info i can get i know nothing about putting cars together :S lol , but im slowly learning ^^ , ill throw you a PM in a sec for a bit more info on your post :)

Cheers

nice car, the rear lights look like what happened when i tried to tint my front indicators!

i have smoked rears on my SEC, i got them off ebay, i ordered clear and the seller sent me the wrong ones, anyway i put them on and decided they looked good... they are smoked but not anywhere near as dark as yours... might be an idea for you? if you dont mind me sayign yours look a bit nova crew at the moment!

the rest of the car looks great though...

haha, yea they are alot darker than they looked on fleebay :P, but they are black plastic, not sprayed. they look alot better at night with the lights on, the red comes through slightly darker and looks really good (imo :P)

i had a looka round and all i could fide were

clears/white
red/white
red/black
red

red and black looked ok, but sold them... now i think about it, dont know why i didnt fit them to mine to see what they looked like, oh well (bought a 2.0 cossy replica to break, bought it for the leather intieror that i threw in mine)

Re: M102 engine 2.3 8v
post 1989'ish twin duplex timing chain engine for longevity also?

Whats this? what differed between the engine years? (im aimi9ng for a <1991 to remove the cat)

EZL ignition unit with the engine since they are getting rarer by the minute also.
Whats special about this?
Chris

Hi Cris
The 2 litre m102 engine started life with just a single timing chain driving the cam and distributer. These could suffer premature wear/failure like at 70-80k miles. They were replaced with a duplex (twin) chain setup during 1989 which was much more robust and lasts the life of the engine if looked after. Its difficult to say exactly when the change took place and whether this date applies to the 2.3 engine as well as the 2.0 litre. The good news is that its easy to check by feel via the cam cover oil filler cap. Just feel for 2 side by side rows of chains. You can also get an indication of wear/chain tightness at the same time.
The EZL IGNITION units are located on the inner wing of the car and have various inputs from sensors on the engine. Unlike modern cars where both ignition and fuelling are controlled via an integrated unit these control functions are split on these cars. The EZL unit controls the ignition whereas the fuelling is controlled by an engine ECU .

The heat sink compound between the wing and EZL unit can dry out causing the unit to overheat. They are expensive to repair if you can find someone to do it. So thats why I recommended taking one from your engine donor car.

ps you may need the engine ECU and associated wiring/ sensors distributor etc also This would best be achieved with a complete donor car IMHO
Cheers Graeme
