Hi,

Just joined up after years of looking.

Always had Amg's and other costly mercs, but now thinking about getting rid of all and heading down the W124 coupe route.

I currently have a white 2012 C63 estate and a black 2011 E250 CDI Cabriolet. They are coming to the end of there leases and I'm in a quandary - do I go for a new Amg again maybe the A class or something super sensible like a new E coupe diesel.

OR do I save £1000's and head for a mint W124 coupe?

Hi, welcome to the forum.

124's are nice old cars and they have a very solid feel about them.

They don't depreciate like a new car so try one for yourself, if its not for you sell it.
(Caution you may become addicted to 124's)

Welcome to the forum Billy.

As lovely as a W124 is, you may struggle to adapt to how slow they are (in relative terms) unless you went for the E36 AMG.

Do you need two cars or are you thinking about combining the two?

Hi James,

I had a 95M 280te around 98-2000 and loved it, but that was a long time ago with many cars in between then and now.

My friend is selling a mint 89G 300CE in anthracite and I tried it last night. Bit of a culture shock after mine and a bit vague on the steering, but a lovely looking car. I'm sure it will be cheaper to run than my C63 and saving money is what it's all about in these days of austerity.

They are 'old school' and its probably best to look at them as a classic (but a usable modern classic) and not be in too much of a rush. After the steering the next thing you will notice is the brakes! Not that they are bad, but they are very small compared to modern cars. After a few miles you adapt and enjoy. I would be quite happy to spend huge amounts of time behind the wheel of mine.

I'm looking for a 129 500sl as well so that should give me the grunt when I fancy a play.

I know going retro will be a culture shock, but need to save money for a year while I'm moving house. Less the 2 monthly lease payments on my 2 cars will pay for a mint W124 coupe.

Sounds like quite a plan.
A car for every eventuality and your saving money while doing so!

Yea, probably the plan of a mad man, but still a plan.

Watch this space...

:D
i think this is an amazing plan. Can't wait to find out how you get on.
Just hope this doesn't catch on and all the 124s get bought up.;)

The deal has been done. I am now a proud owner of a very nice full history 300CE. If I figure out how to do it, I'll post some pictures.

Help with Spring/shock repelacement

I've now taken delivery of my new relic and as you can see from the photos it is high at the back and low at the front.

It has recently had genuine rear shocks fitted btw.

The height from wheel centre to arch is 16" at the rear and 14.25" at the front.

I am thinking of giving it more of a "sportline" look with slightly lower than standard springs, but need to take advice on the best route to take.

I'm all ears...
