Hi Guys
Just joined the forum, glad to see a decent forum UK site !1. I drive a SLK320 R170, or should I say the wife drives most of the time. We have had it now for almost a year and can honestly say it has been brilliant, a real joy to drive especially when the weather permits us have the roof down.

However, we have just encountered our first problem………..sometimes when left un-driven for a few days, or on very rare occasions the gear shift will not come out of parked. Spend a few minuets turning the engine on off on off brake on brake off, and you may eventually manage to get it in drive. Called the RAC out tonight as it took forever to get it in to Drive, eventually cancelled the call with RAC Phew !!

Really need to get this fixed ASAP………….Any ideas what it could be, any recommendations on Garages etc in the Farnborough area (North East Hampshire).

Thanks in advance for any help.

All The Best.

Welcome. A mighty fine choice of vehicle if I may say so :p :D And yes, top down driving is wonderful - at any time of year.:D But maybe not today when it would end up like a mobile swimming pool:crazy:

You say you've had the car for almost a year - did you buy it from a main dealer? If so I'd be tempted to take it back to them. If it's got full MBSH then you shouldn't need the RAC - you should be calling Mobilo Life ;) They provide a fab MB dedicated breakdown service and I wouldn't cancel the call to them - let them come and look as they can sometimes fix the problem for you.

I'm sure someone on here will know the answer to your problem - sadly I don't, I haven't experienced this with mine.

I had the same promlem with my SClass, i don't know if it is the same gearbox, they had to replace the whole unit which was done under Service + free of charge. Mind you my Sclass is a 320.

Firstly, welcome to the forum!

Apparently can be a common problem on some of the 'open gate' Merc gearboxes. Family friend had a problem with their W210 recently.

If you've got a full Mercedes dealer history good be worth asking them. Alternatively theres an independent in Aldershot that could be worth a try, Mercury Prestige 01252 318 318

Used them to replace my brakes on the W203, very reasonable, genuine MB parts but at a fraction of the labour rate!

Either you aren't pressing the brake pedal when selecting the gears so the selector is locked in park, or the park lock solaenoid is sticking (very likely). There should be a slot in the top of the selector housing which you can poke a pen through to manually release the solenoid.

It probably wants lubricating or adjusting.
