hi there

A long story short. I purchased a house not to long ago, it needed some attention, which is now done, time to tackle garden, looked in rear garage which was packed, garden tackled time to empty garage, a surprise a 306 was tucked under all the mess under a cover, what a find! contacted police, nothing outstanding, spoke to solicitor who says that the previous owner who died owned the car as i purchased the house everything within the boundires i own! so i sent off a form from the post office along with £19 and now the log book is in my name.
Keys were on shelf by the door and were given to nephew to play with when we took freehold of the house, a quick 5 finger motion and keys are now with me!

opened the car, found owners manual, service book, and host of documents for the car.

Out it came a quick wash and hoover, new battery, service parts a few bulbs and a new mirror glass alls ship shape

NOW for the bad bit, it has a misfire, plugs have been changed and all connections have been cleaned and checked but still no joy the car has 26000 miles and is in near perfect condition apart from a tyre which is square and will be changed!

ANY ideas, i was thinking the coils which are on a board along the top of the engine but not wanting to fork out if its not going to fix the issue.

Hello not quite the barn find we would all wish for....but gift horse and all that... :)

Is it a Derv? or Petrol

Could it be the glow plugs?, distributor?

Good luck sorting it

well i was in the market for a run about, didnt quite fancy putting paint tubs/garden waste ect, in the merc

Its the top spec petrol model 2000cc xsi or sumthing like that its quite nice and a change from the merc!

The coils on Pugs have been known to cause problems, particularly if they're not used for a while. Had no end of problems with a friend's 106 until we changed the coil and all the leads.

Don't know if yours has one or two coils, if I remember correctly, some of them did some strange thing of having a coil for two plugs and another for the other two.

Agreed, the coils can cause problems. Also if you change the leads go for originals if you can - I know that might sound obvious, but some aftermarket leads can also cause a misfire if the resistance is not correct.

:) its called 'Wasted Spark' - where one cylinder fires and the other goes to 'waste'. As far as I recall the 306 XSi is a TU engine which is most likely wasted spark.

If it is a wasted spark system and you can identify which cylinder is misfiring e.g. check the plugs for excess carbon deposits, to identify which coil pack may be faulty you can usually swap them over and see if the misfire moves to another cylinder.

HTH

A mate had a similar problem with his car and it turned out to be the Coil pack that fires all for cylinders but a couple of plus can miss fire.

Got a realy good deal from German and Swedish for the coil pack
