How many miles have you driven?

Passed my test at 18, now 42. In years 1-5 probably 7k pa, in years 6-17 I averaged 50-60k pa and in last 6 years approximately 12k pa, so around 657k in 24 years.

I can just about remember what I managed in each car I owned or company cars I drove - adding a bit for driving the wife's car I make it about 845k since passing - about 33 years ago....

Reckon I might just make a million as I have slowed down recently but 10k a year average for another 16 years should be doable...

Most in one car - Volvo S60 2.4D S Manual - 125k, three and a half years
Most in one year - 41k in a Merc E220 CDi Avantgarde estate bought at 3 months old and 3k miles...
Least in a car - 4k in a Pug 306 GTi6, proving I had grown up and no longer could revert to being a boy racer!

I shudder to think (as we all shuddered in my Morris Marina 1.8 Estate) at the milage I have travelled.

Longest journey Dhekelia (Cyprus) to Farington (Lancashire) Mitsubishi Lancers GLX 1.5. Ferry to the bottom bit of Greece nipped across the bottom bit of Greeece, ferry to the toe of Italy up the west coast of Italy, Rome, Venice, Ploken Pass, Germany and home. Think we did it in two weeks, stopping off here and there. No satnav, no mobile phone, just my SWMBO, (map reader superb) and No 1 son age 11 - no ipad or screen games for him either, just the sheer enjoyment of travel and seeing new things.

Shortest journey, this morning for milk, less than two miles - there and back - but I was in my 124, so they were two class miles.

Other longish journeys Lancashire to Berlin, through the Berlin Corridor before the wall came down. Always interesting in East Germany, the tail lights on a Trabbie are not the brightest, neither is their autobahn cruising speed. Many a time we nearly went up the chuff of one of them as the loomed up directly in front of us and no miles per hour whilst we were "moving on"

Got to be in the half a mil miles I'm guessing.

About 10k miles per year. For 6 years is ~~60k miles.
I count only my private car.

Good times, John. :)

Only the other day I was thinking it was a pity I had not kept a photographic record of all the vehicles I have ever owned/driven.

I never thought that, then again if you saw some of the pure rubbish I drove back in the day you wouldn't blame me. :D

Rough calculation gives about 800k miles:cool:
About 10% of that developing road cars and being paid to drive some nice ones:D
One year I spent over 2 weeks above 35,000 ft such was my air travel....that means I must have flown about 180K miles that year alone. Rather glad I didn't have to drive to Japan each month!

I reckon about 200k in total and unlikely, because of age, to double it.

Interesting thread. Also got me thinking about
* member's longest, continuous NCB?
11 yrs for me
* smallest total miles as a regular driver (I'm a little intrigued when I read about main cars that have very low, legitimate annual mileage)

Well my Pug 206 is a March 2004 car. It was my Mums from new and she kept it till Sept 13. Then I bought it for my son to use when home from uni and me to potter to supermarket in to save the (then) E class estate.... Now he has a job in London and doesnt need a car, it is my station car. Now used daily on Mon to Friday most weeks for the short hop to station but not much else...

Total mileage 36800....

Never failed an MOT. Immaculate apart from the scrape where my son tried to rewrite the laws of physics.... Plan to keep it for a few years yet - costs a few hundred to keep on road each year and worth a few hundred so mighht as well keep it and see what happens....
