How much do you pay for insurance

good advice.

but i wounder how long the "follow the rules brigade" on here will go before they point out its against the law if they don't drive the vehicle or use it...:wallbash:

Why would that be the case? My missus is named on my policy and it's entirely feasible that she may at some point need to drive my car. It's just never happened yet.

49 years old, full ncb, no points and never had accident £745 Marks and Spencer insurance cheapest I could find, e320cdi (2001).This year my Chauffeur car (Galaxy Ghia x) went up from £1375 to £2450 and that was with shopping around it was originally £2930 if i had stayed with the same company.Also just to mention my e320 was £370 last year.I live in a BB postcode area and was told that crash for cash claims was to blame but I am dubious about that. I think I will try to put a relative on next time and see if that works (my wife does not drive so she is out of the question).

bit of a grey area...for example.. lots of people put young drivers on their insurance and don't drive the car. i think the offence or fraud is if you know your wife will not drive the car and you use her to drop you insurance quote. how the hell they will prove this,without alot of expense money wise, i don't know...we all do it, its just a matter of time before they do something to stop it..;)

OK - you're getting confused with 'fronting'. That's to do with, as you say, using an older person to get lower insurance for a young driver. However the difference there is that the older person is declared as being the main user of the car, when in fact they're not.

i'll put the woman who lives down the road, on my insurance next time, should drop my quote..she will never drive my car but what the hell....:D

450 SL . Insured for myself , 34 year old son , and 29 year old daughter. Includes European breakdown cover, excess £150.
cost = £139.oo ( 5,000 miles a year).

£156.00 fully comp which includes agreed value/breakdown cover, £300.00 excess, limited mileage (5000 miles). It's on a classic car policy so a no claims bonus is not required (although i do have 9 years NCB).

£300 C220 CDI W204 Me and Wife £250 excess no speeds or crunches

I had a bit of a shock today.

I paid £800pa for my XKR-S so, 4 months into the policy, I was expecting a small increase for the SLS :o

Try nearly £600 extra for the remaining 8 months :eek:

So, as an annual equivalent, that car is £1600 a year to insure :crazy: This is with a £1k voluntary + £350 compulsory excess.

Saying this, it does cover my girlfriend and her dad too - she's only 28 and makes virtually no difference to the premium, her dad is 59 and he costs me an extra £150....work that one out!! All of us have clean histories and only I have 3 points for an SP50.

Anyway, whilst this is not unexpected for the kind and value of a car such as the SLS, it shows how much of a bargain both the Jag and my previous 911 Turbo were to insure...both had similar performance to the AMG yet both cost nearly half the price to cover. Only my Maserati came close to the SLS at £1450pa.....and for no reason either as that had nowhere near the owner and was considerably lower value than all the above.
