Anyone got any ideas? I`ve got to drive to Wells Next The Sea tomorrow to help my sister build a beach hut and need to fit my ladders in. I can just squeeze them through from the boot and close the lid, but they`re right in the middle of the car, I need them to slide over to the passenger side but the damn headrest won`t come out. I`ve pushed in the release button which allows it to alter the height, but it stops at the highest point and you can`t pull it right out :dk:
Help!!!

I'd like to know this too :thumb:

On most Mercs , there's a button hidden in the back of the seat , about 6" down and in line with one of the support rods - feel for it , and press when the headrest is at its full height , then pull out .

Shall give that a go and post back

Thanks for that, just tried it though and unfortunately the back of my seats are solid, so can`t feel anything through them at all :dk:

On a W211 you have to remove the seat-back lining first, two screws at the bottom.

On my S211, you just hold in the tab by the headrest post and pull it out. Is it different on W211s?

So MB have made it easy then? Not quite sure why they did not make it like most cars in that it would lift out. Wonder if some cars have electric headrests or something?

Ah!! Just realised, that's how I remove the front ones, the rears are different 'cos they have the electric "drop down" feature. I can't seem to remove those either...

It may be different also for the W211 that does not have electric seat adjustments, no wiring needed then towards the headrests.

i thought that you extend it electrically as high as it will go and then pull it off?

Can you manage if you simply pull the passenger seat as far forward as it will go and then recline it as far as possible?

In my 2005 S211 it is the same as for bpsorrel - pushing the tab in means I can pull the whole thing up and out. Is yours electric?

bpsorrel - the rears do not come out because they are connected into the flattening system, which I have heard is a vacuum system (why?), so presumably there is some fixed pipework in there!

Cheers everyone, just about to set off. managed to get them in, but couldn`t get the headrest off even managed to get the seat back off, but still to no avail. Have flattened the seat and dragged it as far forward as possible, have just managed to just squeeze it through. Thanks again ;)

If you have crash aktiv headrests you can't remove them (such as on the W164) as there is wiring to them.

crash aktiv headrests are the ones that pop forward in an accident so your head doesnt have to whiplash backwards !

So, if you cant remove them, I suspect you have crash aktiv headrests (or in the case of rear ones, folding ones) and you should be happy :-)

removing a passenger seat headrest on w211

Just managed to finally remove the headrest on passenger seat. I have electrically adjustable headrests. First thing to do is to lover the headrest all the way down. then you need to unscrew 2 screws at the back of the seat, right at the bottom so you can remove the back panel of the seat. Mine didnt come off fully as i have a lumbar support handle on the side, but i let me pull in to the side enough. then at the to you will see the mechanism that raises and lowers the headrest. it will be easier to see it if the headrest is fully down. you will also see the bars and the left one pulls out easily but the right one has like a half a spacer that attaches a wire to it so the wire doesn't wobble about. That spacer is what keeps the headrest from just pulling it out. after you remove the spacer the headrest will just slide out easily. I am yet to test if pulling the bars apart fixed the rattle.
