Long story, but my brother, whom is currently going through a divorce wants to check that his soon to be ex wife has got her car insured as she carries his kids in the car. Is there anywhere online he can check this? Thanks in advance.

Try the MIB. Whether they can help, due to the Data Protection Act, I don't know.

Ummm. Thanks for that, but it seems you have to pay to the service! I'm tight as ******* and want to find out for free :D

he could try asking her - that's free

but then I guess it doesn't have the same appeal as doing something sneaky in the hope he can dig up a bit of dirt.

I really wish we could keep these divorce type point scoring discussions away from the forums.

Cheers

Andy

lol-Well, he's not trying to score any 'points', he just wants the knowledge that his children are travelling in a legal, insured vehicle, should the the worst happen. I suppose, divorce aside, any parent would want to know the same.

Maybe he can also check to see if the house is insured, whether she has holiday insurance..... ooh i know what about whether she feeds them food with lots of E numbers in it.

Surely they're her kids too?

I do think he's being a bit paranoid. Or looking to start a fight

Oh no, never any E numbers...Organic, mud impregnated grub only for lady muck!

Not by the way she carries on......

You find out if a car is insured when you buy tax online for it, but it might want the reminder information first.

Hi

Why do you think she has not insured it?
If there is a history, complain to the cops and give reg - trust me, they will check but not tell you that they have.

I agree with Andy, why can't he just ask her in a cvilised manner, expressing to her why he want's to know.

Crash into it .....

Hmmmmm This is for your 'brother' but YOUR as tight as**** and YOU?? want to find out for free????

If the concern is genuine, and you or your brother cannot communicate with the other person then what price do you put on these children???

I hate domestic disputes and to me this sounds like trying to seek revenge more than the welfare, or safety of the innocent children??

Presumably if there is a valid tax disc on the car then it was insured at the time (literally on the day at least), this should be fairly easy to check.

I cannot see a genuine reason for wanting to know if the car is insured. Having insurance will not reduce the likelyhood of an accident and the children would not be treated more promptly or with more care by the ambulance driver if the vehicle were insured (after all, this isn't America!).

It would be legitimate to be concerned that your ex-wife was not driving whilst under the influence of drink or drugs, or indeed that she was competant to drive generally, but if she has no insurance then the only impact on the children will be that she has an extra few hundred quid in the kitty for food and toys.

Until she gets caught, that is. And then our wonderful justice system will impose a fine somewhat less in cost than the premium would have been anyway.

and you have about 2 years to save up for it, in the meantime continuing to drive without insurance etc... ;)

Even if the car is insured today, it won't be tomorrow if she cancels it. I can't see any legitimate benefit in finding out the 'current' insured status.
