No one mentioned any of this. I said they just wouldn't pay a claim. They certainly won't be ruining his life, as an other poster has said.
There is a thread on Pistonheads with dozens of pages, where a bloke bought a Honda Civic R, he put an
aftermarket exhaust on.
The car blew its engine up.
Honda UK refused his claim as the car was modified. It was also mapped.
But not mapped by him, by the previous owner.
When it got very legal Honda was forced to pay out because they missed this in their 500 point used car check.
The judge deemed the
exhaust system had nothing to do with damaging the engine.
A stressful two years on a 30k car.
So if you are unaware that your used car has been modified, then the law is on your side.
Not Insurance based, but shows a cars history is often shady, even to main dealers.
