I've had my C63 for 3.5 years which is the longest I've had any car, and I have no plans to sell it! It's one of those "last of an era" cars with a stonking great large capacity normally aspirated V8 (but still a modern engine). The only thing that has tempted me is a 991.1 GTS, but they are a lot more money and you have to deal with the cretinous Porsche dealer network etc. Porsche engines are also nowhere near as good as AMG engines (or BMW M engines for that matter).
BMW M? Don't make me laugh, anyway How do you know this?
I've had a few Porsches now and they've been amazing in every way, current car is a 991 GTS, while I agree the c63 sounds better, it can not be compared to the GTS, the 991 is in a different league!

Not had any issues with Porsche dealers either, much better than BMW and MB!

This is the problem HHamster. You get a C63 and hit a brick wall !
Options become limited.
Unless you have unlimited funds , and you introduce AMG GT`s and the like......

Lol, I wouldn't go that far mate, spend a bit more £££ and you'll find there are other cars better than the c63 - one being a Porsche 991! ;)

I had the 997 C2S.

In what way is the 991 better ?

I had an E90 M3 with the S65 V8 and I would class that as one of the all time great engines. The AMG M156 is in that same category as one of the all time greats.

Porsche have had too many reliability issues with their engines (996, 997.1, 991.1 GT3 etc etc.). I wouldn't trust a Porsche engine to make it to 100k miles without any issues, whereas an M3 V8 is bullet proof, an AMG M156 is bullet proof. That is my humble opinion.

Don't get me wrong, a 991 GTS is probably my dream car, and as you say it is in a league above a C63 or any other super saloon. :thumb:

I always felt that my porker was not an `every day` car. Even though they will tell you that. Don't get me wrong, it was bloody quick and handled lovely, but the hard ride and the noisy flat 6 gets a bit boring after a while. My C63 is the only car I have ever had whereby I would rather listen to the engine and exhaust on every trip , rather than my I pod . Its sensible and comfy one minute, and an animal the next. It is literally like owning 2 cars for the price of 1 !!

In what way is the 991 better ?

991 is meant to be more refined (e.g. less tyre roar), better handling/chassis, better engine (if compared to 997.1).

997 steering feel is supposedly better but I never thought the 991 steering was bad when I've driven them.

For a start the 997 never had the PDK box but I can't really comment, I've not had a 997, I've had two 991s now, C4S & my current GTS, and both are amazing cars, comfortable, drives like a dream, the flat 6 sounds incredible, different sound to a V8 but always a pleasure to drive mine, I find them amazingly engineered cars.

No offence but miles ahead of the C63 apart from the BS.

Really? Mine gets used daily, put 8k miles since I've had it, no complaints here, maybe it's just me but I find them more than comfortable enough to use daily and not to mention the amazing mpg I get out of mine on a steady run!

Fair comment. My 997 was manual anyway, I just preferred that option at the time. There was a tip- tronic version available, but again I do not know how those gearboxes compare to the more up to date PDK`s. I think where I am coming from is , the C63 sits in its own genre really, well I suppose all the AMG saloons/coupes are the same. Whereby you have the luxury car with sports car performance. 0-60 times are all there and there abouts, even against the Porches.
I took my 997 to Nurburgring, and it felt at home there ! ( pardon the pun) !
I am not trying to compare sports cars to saloons and coupes, at the end of the day, they are built for different driving styles and requirements of the owner. I just feel I have it `all` in a C63, where I have never felt that with any other car.

Fair enough and I stand by my first post, if it ticks all the boxes keep it, you will struggle to find better in terms of sound, character and comfort, I do love the m156 engine especially the uprated one in your 507!

Is that us kissed and made up now ? LOL !
|Yess......507 with Milltek de -cat...yummy

Are you running standard exhausts on the Porker ?

The V8 F-Type Jag dare i say it, sounds as good as any V8 AMG. Its fantastic, a lovely car.

Much as I like my C63, I agree with BenzedUP that the Porsche flat 6 engine is every bit as good as the AMG V8 - they sound different, but equally brilliant IMO - and you hear it in the cabin more in a Porsche, especially with the sports exhaust fitted. As for Porsche's PDK box, it is miles better than the semi-auto in the C63!

Even better get a proper air cooled 911 (993 being the best and most reliable/modern) and RSR or Cargraphic back boxes.

I want to love Porsche but there are two issues I have:

1. The dealers (I've been to 3) are so snotty I gave up buying one and got an M3.
2. I drove a C2S, C4S and then a Turbo S more recently in 991 form. All were quite boring to drive I thought. Very fast was the turbo, in fact obscenely fast but I just didn't feel it was value for money and again the dealer was a nob.

Hence the reason for buying a 993 mate. Built like tanks, fast enough, sound epic, great brakes, steering is out of this world and they had cured the oversteer problem.

991s are grand tourers not sports cars. Cayman is closer to what a 911 should be.

porsche specialists like paul stephens, strasse, paragon, autofarm etc are also great and total car geeks. dealers are hideous

Only a GT-R or 911 could replace the E63, or next year's 4Matic version.

Craig has a 850hp 911 that he's having a lot of fun with, and holy crip its epic off the line.

*edit, maybe a GTs next year depending on values. They're expected to be £80k
